2017 World Baseball Classic
The 2017 World Baseball Classic (WBC) was an international professional baseball competition, composed of 16 competing nations, held from March 6 to March 22, 2017. It was the fourth iteration of the World Baseball Classic. The first-round hosts were Seoul, Tokyo, Miami, and Zapopan. The second-round hosts were Tokyo and San Diego, and the championship round was played in Los Angeles. Twelve of the 16 competing nations qualified based on their performance during the first round of the 2013 tournament; the remaining four nations were the winners of four qualification tournaments that took place in February, March, and September 2016. Two of the four qualifiers, Colombia and Israel, made their first appearance in the WBC, and both have secured their positions for the 2023 World Baseball Classic. Doosan Bears
The Doosan Bears ( ko, 두산 베어스) are a South Korean professional baseball team based in Seoul. Founded in 1982, they are a member of the KBO League. The Bears have won six Korean Series titles (1982, 1995, 2001, 2015, 2016, and 2019) and play their home games at Seoul's Jamsil Baseball Stadium. History The club was founded in Daejeon in as the OB Bears, with the Oriental Brewery as their owners. OB Bears were the first team to be founded in the KBO League. Park Hee-soo
Park Hee-soo (Hangul: 박희수, Hanja: 朴熙洙; born July 13, 1983 in Daejeon) is a South Korean baseball coach who plays for the Samsung Lions in the Korea Baseball Organization. He bats right-handed and throws left-handed as relief pitcher. Amateur career While attending Daejeon High School, Park was selected for the South Korean national baseball team to compete at the 2001 Asian Junior Baseball Championship hosted by Taiwan. After graduation, Park was drafted by the SK Wyverns in in the 2nd round and as the 43rd pick overall, but decided to play college baseball at Dongguk University. Notable international careers Professional career After graduation from Dongguk University in 2006 Park started his pro season in the SK Wyverns. Jeongeup
Jeongeup (), also known as Jeongeup-si, is a city in North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The city limits include Naejang-san National Park, a popular destination particularly in autumn due to its foliage. Jeongeup is on the Honam Expressway and Honam Line, with the Seohaean Expressway also within easy reach, providing links to Seoul and Mokpo. Demographics Jeongeup's population is in decline, with an average of 56 people moving to the city every day but 91 leaving, with the birth and death rates being equal. The divorce rate currently runs at 50%. Geography The main hills in Jeongeup are Naejang-san National Park and Ibamsan, though there are also several smaller hills in the city. Seung-hwan Oh
Seung-hwan Oh (Hangul: ; ; ; born July 15, 1982) is a South Korean professional baseball relief pitcher for the Samsung Lions of the KBO League. He previously played for the Lions in South Korea, the Hanshin Tigers of Nippon Professional Baseball (NPB) in Japan, and the St. Louis Cardinals, Toronto Blue Jays, and Colorado Rockies of Major League Baseball (MLB). He is known as "Dol-bucheo" (Stone Buddha) for being unshaken and maintaining an emotionless face in every situation. His prowess as a relief pitcher also earned him the nickname "Kkeut-pan Wang" (Final Boss), in South Korea and among Cardinals fans. Iksan
Iksan ( ko, 익산; ) is a city and major railway junction in North Jeolla Province, (commonly transliterated as Jeollabuk-do or Chollabuk-do) South Korea. Gwangju
Gwangju () is South Korea's sixth-largest metropolis. It is a designated metropolitan city under the direct control of the central government's Home Minister. Kia Tigers
Kia Tigers ( ko, KIA 타이거즈) are a South Korean professional baseball team founded in 1982 and based in the southwestern city of Gwangju. Until 2001, they were known as the Haitai Tigers. The Tigers are a members of the KBO League and are the most successful team in Korean baseball, having won the national Korean Series championship 11 times with a perfect 11–0 record.
