2017 Warwickshire County Council Election
The 2017 Warwickshire County Council election took place as part of the 2017 local elections in the UK. All 57 councillors were elected for single-member electoral divisions for a four-year term. The voting system used was first-past-the-post. Boundary changes took effect at this election after a review by the Local Government Boundary Commission for England. The result was Conservative councillors formed a majority of 15 on the council which had been three seats short of any single political grouping's control before the election. The second-largest party became ten councillors of the Labour Party and the balance of the council became formed by seven Liberal Democrats. 2013 Warwickshire County Council Election
An election to Warwickshire County Council took place on 2 May 2013 as part of the 2013 United Kingdom local elections. 62 councillors were elected from 56 electoral divisions, which returned either one or two county councillors each by first-past-the-post voting for a four-year term of office. The electoral divisions were the same as those used at the previous election in 2009. The election saw the Conservative Party lose overall control of the council. All locally registered electors (British, Irish, Commonwealth and European Union citizens) who were aged 18 or over on Thursday 2 May 2013 were entitled to vote in the local elections. Those who were temporarily away from their ordinary address (for example, away working, on holiday, in student accommodation or in hospital) were also entitled to vote in the local elections, although those who had moved abroad and registered as overseas electors cannot vote in the local elections. Matt Western
Matthew Raymond Western (born 7 November 1962) is a British Labour Party politician who has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Warwick & Leamington since the snap 2017 general election. He was re-elected in the 2019 general election. Early life Western was educated in St Albans and graduated with a BSc degree in Geography from the University of Bristol in 1984. Prior to entering politics, Western worked in various senior management roles during a 24-year career with Peugeot both in the UK and Paris, France. He specialised in Finance, Procurement and Marketing. Warwick ( ) is a market town, civil parish and the county town of Warwickshire in the Warwick District in England, adjacent to the River Avon. It is south of Coventry, and south-east of Birmingham. Stratford-upon-Avon (), commonly known as just Stratford, is a market town and civil parish in the Stratford-on-Avon district, in the county of Warwickshire, in the West Midlands region of England. The Borough of Rugby is a local government district with borough status in eastern Warwickshire, England. The borough comprises the town of Rugby where the council has its headquarters, and the rural areas surrounding the town. The borough has a population of 114,400 (2021). Bill Olner
William John Olner (9 May 1942 – 18 May 2020) was a British Labour Co-operative politician who served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Nuneaton from 1992 until 2010. Previously, he led Nuneaton Borough Council (which later merged with Bedworth to form Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council). Education and early life Olner was educated at Nuneaton Technical College and trained as an engineer. He became a shop steward, and later area secretary for the AEEU (now Unite trade union). Political career Olner was a councillor for the Labour group on Nuneaton and Bedworth Borough Council for 21 years and was the council leader from 1982 to 1987. North Warwickshire is a local government district with borough status in the ceremonial county of Warwickshire, West Midlands, England. Outlying settlements in the borough include the two towns of Atherstone (where the council is based) and Coleshill. Notable villages in the borough include Dordon, Polesworth, Kingsbury, Water Orton and Shustoke. The North Warwickshire district was created on 1 April 1974 by a merger of the Atherstone Rural District and parts of the Meriden Rural District (the rest of which was merged into the West Midlands county).
