The event was held at Townsville Street Circuit near Townsville, Queensland and consisted of two races, both 200 kilometres in length. Townsville is a city on the north-eastern coast of Queensland, Australia. Aaren Russell (born 22 August 1991) is an Australian motor-racing driver in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. Career history Junior formulae In 2008 and 2009, Russell competed in the NSW Formula Vee championship, a stepping stone taken by several current main series V8 Supercars drivers. After placing 8th in his 2008 rookie season and 2nd in 2009, the Development V8 Supercar Series, the second tier of V8 Supercars racing, became his next target. Development Series Russell moved into the Development Series in 2010 with family team Novocastrian Motorsport. His debut year saw him finish 9th in the championship. While he matched this feat in 2013, he would not improve on this championship position until 2014, when he finished 7th. The 2016 Castrol Edge Townsville 400 was a motor racing event for Supercars, held on the weekend of 8 to 10 July 2016. The event was held at the Townsville Street Circuit in Townsville, Queensland, and consisted of two races of 200 kilometres in length. It was the seventh event of fourteen in the 2016 International V8 Supercars Championship and hosted Races 14 and 15 of the season. The event was the eighth running of the Townsville 400. Triple Eight Race Engineering had a successful weekend with two of its drivers, Jamie Whincup and Shane van Gisbergen, finishing first and second in Race 14. Lucas Dumbrell Motorsport was an Australian motor racing team that competed in the Virgin Australia Supercars Championship. The team was sold to Phil Munday and re-branded as 23Red Racing at the end of 2017. Background Lucas Dumbrell comes from a strong motor racing family; both his father Garry and his brother Paul raced in open wheel and touring car racing. Cameron 'Conkers' McConville (born 22 January 1974) is an Australian racing driver and motorsport celebrity. While retired from full-time competition, McConville still races occasionally and is an in-demand endurance event co-driver. McConville spent 14 years as a professional driver, ten of those in the largest Australian domestic category, Supercars Championship. McConville has also written for several magazines and presented several television programs and up until the end of the 2009 season was the colour commentator for Network Ten's Australian coverage of Formula One. The 2017 Supercars Championship (formally known as the 2017 Virgin Australia Supercars Championship) was an FIA-sanctioned international motor racing series for Supercars, which prior to July 2016 had been known as V8 Supercars. Reid Park Street Circuit, also known as the Townsville Street Circuit, is a semi-permanent street circuit located in Townsville, Queensland, Australia. Opened in 2009, the circuit hosts the Townsville 400 Supercars Championship event every year. The circuit The Reid Park Street Circuit is reminiscent of the Albert Park Circuit's parkland setting. It winds its way through Reid Park where specially constructed roads form approximately 70 percent of the circuit.
