2017 Tarleton State Texans Football Team
The 2017 Tarleton State Texans football team represented Tarleton State University in the 2017 NCAA Division II football season. They were led by head coach Todd Whitten, who was in his consecutive second season at Tarleton State and eighth overall as head coach of the Texans. Ratliff Stadium
Ratliff Stadium is a stadium in Odessa, Texas. It is primarily used for American football, and is the home field for the city's two public high schools, Odessa and Permian High Schools. The stadium opened in 1982 and holds 17, 931 people (capacity was reduced from the original 19,302 people when additional handicapped seating and accomodations were added in 2008). It was the stadium used during filming of most of the football action in the 2004 movie '' Friday Night Lights'', an adaptation of a 1990 book about Permian's 1988 football season. 2017 Texas–Permian Basin Falcons Football Team
The 2017 Texas–Permian Basin Falcons football team represented University of Texas of the Permian Basin in the 2017 NCAA Division II football season. They were led by second-year head coach Justin Carrigan. The Falcons played their home games at Ratliff Stadium in Odessa, Texas, with one home game played at Grande Communications Stadium in Midland, and were members of the Lone Star Conference (LSC). In the program's second season, the team matched its 2–9 record from the previous season and went 1–7 in conference play. The 2017 season marked many firsts for the program. On September 23, the team defeated Western New Mexico 41–32 at Altamirano Staium in Silver City, New Mexico.
