2017 Taiwan Blackout
On 15 August 2017 at 4:52 p.m. NST, massive blackout hit northern half of Taiwan, affecting 6.68 million households. Electricity rationing was implemented at 6:00 p.m. and the blackout fully ended at 9:40 p.m. Event Power plant During the power supply equipment replacement for a control system of the metering station at Tatan Power Plant in Guanyin District, Taoyuan City by a contractor of CPC Corporation, the worker did not switch the system from auto mode to manual mode before starting the work, causing the two gas supply pipe valves to close and stop the supply of liquefied natural gas fuel source for two minutes. Six generators of the power plant fully tripped due to that, disrupting the supply of 4 GW of electricity. Chen Chin-te
Chen Chin-te (; born 26 September 1961), also known as Derek Chen, is a Taiwanese politician. Career Chen attended National Taipei University of Technology and National Taiwan University of Science and Technology. Through his activism, Chen became known as the "oldest grandson of the tangwai movement." He worked as Yu Shyi-kun's secretary when Yu was Yilan County magistrate. Chen ended his graduate studies without earning a doctoral degree, to run in the 1991 National Assembly elections. While a member of the National Assembly, Chen also served as Democratic Progressive Party caucus leader. Within the DPP, Chen was affiliated with the New Tide faction. Lin Chuan (; born 13 December 1951) is a Taiwanese economist and politician who served as Premier of the Republic of China (Taiwan) from 2016 to 2017 under President Tsai Ing-wen. He served as Minister of Budget, Accounting and Statistics and Minister of Finance during Chen Shui-bian's presidency. Chih-Kung Lee (C.K. Lee; ; born October 1959 in Taipei) is a Taiwanese mechanical engineer. He received his B.S. degree in civil engineering from National Taiwan University and then obtained his M.S. and Ph.D. degrees from Cornell University, majoring in theoretical & applied mechanics, with a minor in physics.
