2017 Spokane Empire Season
The 2017 Spokane Empire season was the second season for the professional indoor football franchise in the Indoor Football League (IFL). The Empire were one of ten teams that competed in the IFL for the 2017 season and were members of the Intense Conference. Led by head coach Adam Shackleford, the Empire played their home games at Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena in Spokane, Washington Spokane ( ) is the largest city and county seat of Spokane County, Washington, United States. Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena
Spokane Veterans Memorial Arena (Spokane Arena) is a multi-purpose arena in the northwestern United States, located in Spokane, Washington. Opened in 1995, it is home to the Spokane Chiefs of the Western Hockey League. Facility Construction With an aging Spokane Coliseum, along with a need for a larger facility more than twice the coliseum's capacity, the Spokane City Council and Board of Spokane County Commissioners formed the Spokane Public Facilities District (SPFD) to acquire, construct, own and operate sports and entertainment facilities with contiguous parking facilities. Placekicker
Placekicker, or simply kicker (PK or K), is the player in gridiron football who is responsible for the kicking duties of field goals and extra points. In many cases, the placekicker also serves as the team's kickoff specialist or punter. Specialized role The kicker initially was not a specialized role. Prior to the 1934 standardization of the prolate spheroid shape of the ball, drop kicking was the prevalent method of kicking field goals and conversions, but even after its replacement by place kicking, until the 1960s the kicker almost always doubled at another position on the roster. Colorado Crush (IFL)
The Colorado Crush were a professional indoor football team. The Crush played its home games at the Budweiser Events Center in Loveland, Colorado, outside Fort Collins. The Crush began play in 2007 as the Colorado Ice, an expansion member of United Indoor Football (UIF) and joined the Indoor Football League as part of the UIF-Intense Football League merger of 2009. Ahead of the 2016 season, the team changed its name to the Colorado Crush, after the John Elway-owned team of the same name that played in the Arena Football League from 2003 until its suspension of operations in 2008. James Atoe
James Atoe (born October 1, 1991) is an American football offensive lineman who is currently a free agent. He played college football at University of Washington and attended The Dalles High School in The Dalles, Oregon. He has also been a member of the Colorado Crush and the Spokane Empire. College career Atoe played for the Washington Huskies from 2010 to 2014. He was the team's starter his final year and helped the Huskies to 31 wins. He played in 43 games during his career including 13 starts at guard and 7 at tackle. College statistics Professional career Atoe was invited to the Seattle Seahawks rookie mini-camp as an undrafted free agent, but was not offered a contract. Tri-Cities Fever
The Tri-Cities Fever were a professional indoor football franchise based in Kennewick, Washington. The Fever joined National Indoor Football League (NIFL) in 2005 as an expansion team. The Fever were owned by Teri Carr. From 2005 to 2016, the Fever played their home games at the Toyota Center in Kennewick, Washington. On June 30, 2016, the team announced it would go dormant for the 2017 season and beyond. The Fever won one division title and three conference championships. They appeared in two United Bowls, most recently the 2012 United Bowl where they were defeated by the Sioux Falls Storm 59-32. Andrew Jackson (born March 16, 1992) is a former American football linebacker. He was selected by the Indianapolis Colts in the sixth round of the 2014 NFL draft. Bloomington Edge
The Bloomington Edge was a professional indoor football team based in Bloomington, Illinois. While it was in operation, the team hosted home games at Grossinger Motors Arena. Originally named the Bloomington Extreme, the team was a member of United Indoor Football (UIF), and joined the Indoor Football League (IFL) in 2009 during the UIF and Intense Football League merger. They left the IFL for the Champions Professional Indoor Football League (CPIFL) in 2013, and in 2015 the CPIFL merged with the Lone Star Football League (LSFL) to create Champions Indoor Football (CIF), where Bloomington did not follow and joined X-League Indoor Football (X-League). David Lefotu (born March 25, 1992) is an American football offensive lineman who is a free agent. He played college football at University of Hawaii at Manoa and attended Pearl City High School in Pearl City, Hawaii. He has been a member of the Spokane Empire, Tampa Bay Storm and Albany Empire. College career Lefotu played for the Hawaii Rainbow Warriors from 2010 to 2014. He was the team's starter his final three and a half years and helped the Rainbow Warriors to 14 wins. A running back (RB) is a member of the offensive backfield in gridiron football. Toby Jackson (born October 18, 1986) is an American football defensive end for the Massachusetts Pirates of the National Arena League (NAL). He played college football at the University of Central Florida. Early life Jackson attended Griffin High School in Griffin, Georgia, where he was a standout defensive end on the football team. Linebacker
Linebacker (LB) is a playing position in gridiron football. Linebackers are members of the defensive team, and line up three to five yards behind the line of scrimmage and the defensive linemen.
