2017 Singapore League Cup
The 2017 Singapore League Cup (known as The New Paper League Cup for sponsorship reasons) is the 11th edition of the Singapore League Cup, Singapore's premier club football tournament organised by the Football Association of Singapore. Albirex Niigata (S) are the defending champions, having won their third trophy the previous year. The tournament was held from 7 to 21 July 2017. Teams A total of 8 teams participate in the 2017 Singapore League Cup with all clubs coming from the S.League. Singapore League Cup
The Singapore League Cup was an annual soccer competition in Singapore. It was launched in 2007, and was open to teams who play in the S.League. The 2007 competition was sponsored by SingTel, and officially titled the SingTel League Cup. Eight of the twelve S.League teams took part in the 2007 tournament, which was held before the start of the S.League season proper. In 2008, the competition's official sponsored name was the Avaya-J&J League Cup (with sponsorship coming from Avaya and Jebsen & Jessen Communications). All twelve S.League teams took part in the 2008 tournament. Unlike the 2007 event, the 2008 competition was held during the S.League season. The 2009 edition of the League Cup was held from 1 to 19 June, again during the S.League season. The competition began with a group stage, where the clubs were divided into four groups of three. Hougang United Football Club is a Singaporean professional football club that competes in the Singapore Premier League. History Hougang United Football Club was founded as Marine Castle United Football Club, which was formed by Newcastle United fans in the Marine Parade area. Upon successful entry into the S.League in 1998, the club struggled in its early foray in the first few years, finishing in the bottom two for the next four seasons. Marine Castle changed its name to Sengkang Marine Football Club in 2002 and finished in 8th position consecutively, its highest ever finish in its short history. Financial difficulties then forced Sengkang Marine out of the S.League in 2004, and Paya Lebar-Punggol Football Club took its place in 2005, finishing the season as wooden-spoonist. The two clubs then merged their resources from 2006 to 2010 to form Sengkang Punggol Football Club, finishing no higher than 10th. is a Japanese footballer. He is a midfielder who currently plays for Nongbua Pitchaya in Thai League 2. Kento has spent most of his playing career playing for clubs in Singapore and Thailand. Hougang Stadium
Hougang Stadium is a multi-purpose stadium located at the junction of Hougang Avenue 2 and Hougang Avenue 10 in Hougang, Singapore. It is currently used mostly for football matches and is the home stadium of Hougang United FC. The public can use the facilities from 4:30 am to 8:30 pm daily unless it is exclusively booked for a sporting event. The stadium has a capacity of 3,800 people. The Choa Chu Kang Stadium (also known as the CCK Stadium) is part of the Choa Chu Kang Sports and Recreation complex located in Choa Chu Kang, Singapore. Jordan Webb (born 24 March 1988) is a Canadian professional soccer player who plays as a winger with Electric City FC. Early and personal life Webb attended Pine Ridge Secondary School.
