Red Bull Air Race World Championship
The World Championship Air Race is a series of air races sanctioned by the World Air Sports Federation (FAI). Originally established in 2003 as the Red Bull Air Race, and created by Red Bull GmbH, the event involves competitors navigating a challenging obstacle course in the fastest time. Pilots fly individually against the clock and have to complete tight turns through a slalom course consisting of pylons, known as "Air Gates". The races are held mainly over water near cities, but are also held at airfields or natural wonders. They are accompanied by a supporting program of show flights. Races are usually flown on weekends with the first day for qualification then knockout finals the day after. The events attract large crowds and are broadcast, both live and taped, in many nations. Petr Kopfstein
Petr Kopfstein (born March 18, 1978) is a Czech aerobatic pilot, representing the Czech Republic in flying aerobatics in an Unlimited category, and most recently a racer in the Master Class category of the Red Bull Air Race. He is the first winner of the Red Bull Air Race Challenger Cup. After his victory of the whole Challenger Cup in 2014, there were rumors about him moving to Masters; it became a reality for the 2016 season. Péter Besenyei and Paul Bonhomme departed from the series. In 2014, Petr Kopfstein won the Czech National Championship in the Unlimited category, beating his mate and aerobatic colleague Martin Šonka. He flew an Extra 300SC. In 2015, Petr Kopfstein participated again in the Red Bull Air Race Challenger Cup, taking 4th place at the end of the series. Baptiste Vignes (15 April 1985 – 12 April 2022) was a french pilot, instructor, and international aerobatics champion. Biography Vignes grew up in Le Havre and obtained his pilot's license at the Le Havre's Jean-Maridor flying club at a young age. He then trained as an aerobatic pilot at the Bernay-Saint-Martin flying club in the Eure department. He died with Simon de la Bretèche following the crash of Aura Aero's "Integral R" aerobatic aircraft prototype during a flight test. It was designed in 1987 by Walter Extra, a German aerobatic pilot, and built by Extra Flugzeugbau. Nigel Lamb (born 17 August 1956) is an English aerobatics pilot and the 2014 Red Bull Air Race World Champion. Early life Lamb was born in the Eastern Highlands of Southern Rhodesia and was inspired to fly by his father, a Royal Air Force fighter pilot iduringWorld War II. , and persisted until he was finally accepted at 18, in 1975, having finished his schooling at Umtali Boy's High School. Matt Hall (born 16 September 1971 in Newcastle, Australia) is a third-generation pilot, a former Royal Australian Air Force (RAAF) fighter combat instructor, international unlimited aerobatic competitor and the first Australian to be selected to compete in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship, starting in 2009. Yoshihide Muroya
is a Japanese aerobatics pilot and race pilot of the Red Bull Air Race World Championship. He started glider flight training in 1991 because it was an inexpensive way to fly. Muroya went to the United States privately to earn his airplane license at the age of twenty. After that, he worked long hours to earn enough money to get his training in the United States for a period of two months a year. At the same time, he continued glider training in Japan and learned long-distance flight techniques in Australia. In 2009 he participated in the Red Bull Air Race World Championship as first Japanese and first Asian pilot. Special Team Mate Robert Fry joined as Team coordinator.
