2017 North American Indigenous Games
The 2017 North American Indigenous Games were held in Toronto, Ontario, Canada July 16 to 23. The event featured 5,000 athletes aged 13 to 19 in 14 sports. Bidding process The 2017 North American Indigenous Games bidding process began on January 12, 2015 and Toronto submitted its bid on January 30, 2015. The bid to host the Games in Toronto, led by the Aboriginal Sport & Wellness Council of Ontario and the Mississaugas of New Credit First Nation, received unanimous support from the NAIG's International Governing Body. The Games was awarded to Toronto on June 26, 2015 after bids from other cities did not materialize. Funding The total budget for the Games was $11 million. Three levels of government provided funding to the 2017 North American Indigenous Games. Government of Canada provided $3.5 million through Sport Canada and Government of Ontario provided $3.5 million in matching funding. City of Toronto contributed $400,000 funding. Hamilton, Ontario
Hamilton is a port city in the Canadian province of Ontario. Hamilton has a population of 569,353, and its census metropolitan area, which includes Burlington and Grimsby, has a population of 785,184. Ron Joyce Stadium is a football stadium owned by McMaster University in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. The stadium is the home of the McMaster Marauders football team and the Hamilton Nationals of Major League Lacrosse. The stadium features 6,000 permanent seats and temporary seating for an additional 6,000 on the other side of the field when needed for national events. Iroquois Lacrosse Arena
The Iroquois Lacrosse Arena is a box lacrosse arena on the outskirts of Hagersville, Ontario, Canada on the Six Nations of the Grand River Reserve. The arena opened in 2004 and does not host hockey games, there is no refrigeration system for ice. Etobicoke (, ) is an administrative district of, and one of six municipalities amalgamated into, the city of Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Waterdown, Ontario
Waterdown is a village in Canada which since 2001 has been a community of Hamilton, Ontario. Waterdown is approximately 60 km west of downtown Toronto. On January 1, 2001 the new city of Hamilton was formed from the amalgamation of six municipalities: Hamilton, Ontario, Ancaster, Dundas, Flamborough, Glanbrook, and Stoney Creek. Before amalgamation, the "old" City of Hamilton had 331,121 Hamiltonians divided into 100 neighbourhoods. The new amalgamated city has 490,268 people in over 200 neighbourhoods.
