2017 New Year Honours (New Zealand)
The 2017 New Year Honours in New Zealand were appointments by Elizabeth II in her right as Queen of New Zealand, on the advice of the New Zealand government, to various orders and honours to reward and highlight good works by New Zealanders, and to celebrate the passing of 2016 and the beginning of 2017. They were announced on 31 December 2016. The recipients of honours are displayed here as they were styled before their new honour. Elizabeth II
Elizabeth II (Elizabeth Alexandra Mary; 21 April 1926 – 8 September 2022) was Queen of the United Kingdom and other Commonwealth realms from 6 February 1952 until her death in 2022. She was queen regnant of 32 sovereign states during her lifetime, and was head of state of 15 realms at the time of her death. Phil Goff
Philip Bruce Goff (born 22 June 1953) is a New Zealand politician. He was a member of the New Zealand Parliament from 1981 to 1990 and again from 1993 to 2016. He served as leader of the Labour Party and leader of the Opposition between 11 November 2008 and 13 December 2011. During the Fifth Labour Government, in office from 1999 to 2008, Goff was a senior minister in a number of portfolios, including Minister of Justice, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Minister of Defence, and Associate Minister of Finance. Goff was elected mayor of Auckland in 2016, and served two terms, before retiring in 2022. He will become New Zealand's high commissioner to the United Kingdom in January 2023. Stuart Crosby
Stuart Alan Crosby ONZM (born 1956) is a New Zealand politician who served as mayor of the city of Tauranga, New Zealand from 2004 to 2016. Early life Crosby's family moved from Gisborne to Papamoa in 1966, where they started the Papamoa Beach Resort Holiday Park. After finishing high school, Crosby took up an apprenticeship with the Tauranga Electric Power Board, which later became Trustpower. He travelled and worked overseas from 1978 to 1981; after returning to Tauranga he owned Papamoa Electrical Services and Accolade Homes. Fair trade is an arrangement designed to help producers in developing countries achieve sustainable and equitable trade relationships. The fair trade movement combines the payment of higher prices to exporters with improved social and environmental standards. Kaiapoi
Kaiapoi is a town in the Waimakariri District of the Canterbury region, in the South Island of New Zealand. The town is located approximately 17 kilometres north of central Christchurch, close to the mouth of the Waimakariri River. It is considered a satellite town of Christchurch and is part of the Christchurch functional urban area. Kaiapoi is known for its substantial precolonial pā, established by powerful Kāi Tahu nobleman Tūrākautahi. One of the sons of the powerful rangatira Tūāhuriri, Tūrākautahi exerted vast influence over historical Ōtautahi (the site of modern-day Christchurch). Leeston (Māori language, Māori: ''Karumata'') is a town on the Canterbury Plains in the South Island of New Zealand. It is located 30 kilometres southwest of Christchurch, between the shore of Lake Ellesmere / Te Waihora and the mouth of the Rakaia River. Kelvin John Coe (born 1944) was the Mayor of Selwyn District in New Zealand from 2007 to 2016. Early years Coe was born in Lincoln. Michael Rowland Stanley (born 6 November 1957) is a New Zealand sports administrator and former rower. He represented New Zealand at the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics. Stanley has since 2009 been the president of the New Zealand Olympic Committee. Early life Stanley was born in 1957 in Lower Hutt.
