2017 Lithuanian Football Cup
The 2017 Lithuanian Football Cup, also known as LFF Cup, was the seventy-second season of the Lithuanian annual football knock-out tournament. Forty-four teams entered the competitions, which started on 27 April and ended on 24 September in Aukštaitija Stadium, Panevėžys. Stumbras defeated defending champions Žalgiris 1–0 in the final and have qualified for the first qualifying round of the 2018–19 UEFA Europa League. Participants Participation in the competition was mandatory for all clubs of the first three tiers (A Lyga, LFF I Lyga and II Lyga). Despite that two II Lyga sides - NFA and Šiauliai FA weren't competing. Teams of lower divisions were eligible to join if they met additional criterios. Rules prevented all reserve teams from entering the cup. FC Stumbras
Football Club Stumbras was a professional football club, based in Kaunas, Lithuania, which played in A Lyga, the top tier of Lithuanian football. Founded in 2013 on the basis of the NFA, the club has reached the heights of Lithuanian football in a fairly short period of time. It became infamous for one-sided footballer contracts. The club stopped functioning mid-season in 2019 after the owner pulled out the funds. The club played its home matches at the Darius and Girėnas Stadium (capacity 9,180) and used the NFA stadium in Kaunas (capacity 500) as an alternative. I Lyga
The I Lyga, LFF I Lyga, Pirma Lyga, is the second tier of professional Lithuanian football championship. Format Organized by the Lithuanian Football Federation (LFF), I Lyga is contested by 14-16 teams, with the top team gaining promotion to A Lyga and replaced by the lowest-placed team in top division and the bottom 4 clubs being relegated to the II Lyga. Starting with the 2016 season, the second-placed team qualifies to promotion play-offs with A Lyga's next-to-last team. The final list of participants often does not correlate to the final results of the previous season, as the participation is finalized through the Lithuanian Football Federation league licensing process. The team was promoted to the Lithuanian A Lyga after the 2018 season, when became winners of 1 Lyga. History The city of Panevėžys has a long history of football in Lithuania. Until 2014, the city was represented by 7-time title winners FK Ekranas. However, FK Ekranas was unable to meet financial criteria to participate in 2015 season and lost eligibility to participate in the A Lyga. The club was declared bankrupt. FK Palanga was a professional Association football, football club based in Palanga, Lithuania. The team competes in the A Lyga, the top division of Football in Lithuania, Lithuanian football in 2018 and 2019 seasons. History FK Palanga was founded in 2010 and introduced its first team to the third tier Antra Lyga in 2011. FK Palanga started off strong and won this championship in the first year with no defeats. Futbolo centras Pakruojis, commonly known as Pakruojis, was a Football in Lithuania, Lithuanian Football (soccer), football club located in Pakruojis, center of Pakruojis District Municipality, Pakruojis District. History Club was created in January 2016 after the dissolution of another Pakruojis-based club, FK Kruoja Pakruojis, Kruoja. FK Banga Gargždai
FK Banga Gargždai is a Lithuanian football club from the city of Gargždai. History FK Banga was founded in 1966. During the period from 1966 to 1990, the club was in the Soviet Lithuanian football championship. From 1990, they played in the Lithuanian championship. From 1994 to 2001, they were in the top tier. After the 2001 A Lyga, they were relegated to the I Lyga. The team earned promotion to the A Lyga, Lithuania's top football division, for the 2009 season after FBK Kaunas and Atlantas Klaipėda voluntarily withdrew their participation. Football Club Jonava, previously (1996–2016) known as Football Club Lietava, is a Lithuanian professional association football, football club based in Jonava. The club gained promotion to the A lyga as champions of the I Lyga in 2015 LFF I lyga, 2015, but were relegated from A Lyga in 2018. FK Atlantas was a Lithuanian football team from the port city of Klaipėda. The club's name has changed several times. It was established in 1962 as ''Granitas'', and became ''PSK Aras'' in 1993. Since 1996, when FK Sirijus Klaipėda was absorbed into the club, it has had the name Atlantas, which in Lithuanian language means Atlantic Ocean.
