2017 Ligue Haïtienne Season
The 2017 Ligue Haïtienne season is the 54th season of top-tier football in Haiti. It began on 4 March 2017. The league is split into two tournaments—the ''Série d'Ouverture'' and the ''Série de Clôture''—each with identical formats and each contested by the same 16 teams. In a change from last year, the number of teams in the league has been reduced from 18 to 16. Also, the playoffs for both seasons have been changed, having 6 teams qualify with seeds 3 through 6 starting in the quarterfinals and the 1 and 2 seeds starting in the semifinals. Teams At the end of the 2016 season, the bottom 4 teams in the aggregate table; Aigle Noir AC, Roulado FC, Inter, and Violette AC; were relegated to the Haitian second-level leagues. Replacing them were two clubs from the Haitian second-level leagues; Éclair AC and AS Sud-Est. Réal du Cap has changed its name to Real Hope FA. Ligue Haïtienne
Ligue Haïtienne (; ''Haitian League''), is a Haitian professional league, governed by the Haitian Football Federation, for association football clubs. It is the country's primary football competition and serves as the top division of the Haitian football league system. Contested by 18 clubs, it operates on a system of promotion and relegation with Division 2. Clubs also compete against continental rivals in the CONCACAF Champions League. History Foundation It was created in 1937 and is headed by the Fédération Haïtienne de Football, the official governing body of football in the country. Artibonite (department)
Artibonite ( French) or Latibonit (Haitian Creole) is one of the ten departments of Haiti located in central Haiti. With an area of 4,887 km2 it is Haiti's largest department. As of 2015, its estimated population was 1,727,524. The region is the country's main rice-growing area. The main cities are Gonaïves (the capital) and Saint-Marc. Saint-Marc ( ht, Sen Mak) is a commune in western Haiti in Artibonite departement. Its geographic coordinates are . At the 2003 Census the commune had 160,181 inhabitants. It is one of the biggest cities, second to Gonaïves, between Port-au-Prince and Cap-Haïtien. Before the settlement of the French, the region was known as Amani-y ad part of the Xaragua caciquat. Sud ( French) or Sid (Haitian Creole; both meaning "South") is one of the ten departments of Haiti and located in southern Haiti. It has an area of and a population of 774,976. Violette Athletic Club is a professional football club based in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. It is one of the most successful clubs in the country. In 1939, Violette A.C. captured the double after winning the league and the Coupe d'Haïti and won the 1984 CONCACAF Champions' Cup.
