2017 South Asian Floods
Widespread monsoon flooding occurred in the South Asian countries of Afghanistan, Bangladesh, India, Nepal and Pakistan from July through September 2017. More than 45 million people were affected by the floods, including 16 million children. About 2,000 people, on average, had died due to flooding in South Asia each year during the previous two decades, according to ''The New York Times'' reading of the Centre for Research on the Epidemiology of Disasters (EM-DAT) disaster database. Kirti Nidhi Bista ( ne, कीर्तिनिधि विष्ट; 15 January 1927 – 11 November 2017) was a Nepali politician and 25th Prime Minister of Nepal. Biography Bista was born in Thamel, Kathmandu, Nepal in 1927. He served as prime minister of Nepal from 1969 to 1970, 1971 to 1973 and 1977 to 1979. He was minister of finance from 1969 to 1970 and from 1971 to 1973 AD. After the coup d'état of King Gyanendra in 2005 AD, Bista was appointed one of the vice-chairmen until the government collapsed in April 2006 after the people's uprising. Min Bahadur Sherchan
Min Bahadur Sherchan (20 June 1931 – 6 May 2017) was a Nepalese mountaineer and former British Gurkha soldier. In 2008, the 76 year old became the oldest climber to summit Mount Everest. He lost the record five years later to 80 year old Japanese mountaineer Yuichiro Miura. Sherchan died at Everest Base Camp on 6 May 2017 while trying to reclaim his title. In 2008 Min Bahadur Sherchan beat Yuichiro Miura to the top by one day, and Sherchan tried to top summit again 2013 but had to call off his attempt due to health issues. Prior to this the oldest was Katsusuke Yanagisawa, who at 71 summited on May 22, 2007. 2017 Nepalese Legislative Election
General elections were held in Nepal in two phases on 26 November and 7 December 2017 to elect the 275 members of the fifth House of Representatives, the lower house of the Federal Parliament of Nepal. The election was held alongside the first provincial elections for the seven provincial assemblies. A political deadlock between the governing Nepali Congress and the winning left-wing coalition over the system used to elect the upper house led to delay in forming the new government.
