2017 Gao Bombing
On 18 January 2017, a suicide bomber drove a vehicle filled with explosives into a military camp near Gao, Mali, killing 77 people and injuring at least 115. The incident is the deadliest terrorist attack in Malian history. Incident At around 09:00 local time, a vehicle filled with explosives entered the Joint Operational Mechanism base that housed members of the Military of Mali, Malian Army and former militants who had signed a peace agreement with the government. According to an army spokesman, the vehicle was marked with insignia of the active military unit in the area. Dozens of people were killed, though the exact number was initially unclear—Malian state broadcaster Office de Radiodiffusion-Télévision du Mali, ORTM said that 47 were dead, while the President's office estimated there to be 60 fatalities and 115 injured. Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga
Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga (born 11 March 1958) is a Malian politician who was the Prime Minister of Mali from 8 April 2017 to 29 December 2017. Previously he was Minister of Defence since 3 September 2016. As Defence Minister he succeeded Tiéman Hubert Coulibaly, who resigned after the takeover of the village of Boni by jihadist forces. Maïga previously served as Minister of Territorial Administration and Minister for the Environment, Water and Sanitation. During the 2013 presidential election, he was campaign director of Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, who was elected as President. On 8 April 2017 President Keïta appointed him as Prime Minister. A new government headed by Maïga was appointed on 11 April 2017. In the new government, Tiéna Coulibaly succeeded Maïga as Minister of Defence. Abdoulaye Diop
Abdoulaye Diop (born 1965) is a Malian diplomat who served as Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mali from 2014 to 2017 and again from 2021 onwards. Previously he was Mali's Ambassador to the United States, appointed to that position in 2003. Biography Diop received a Master of Arts in International Relations from the International Institute of Public Administration in Paris, France, a Master of Arts in Diplomacy and Management of International Organizations from the Paris-Sud 11 University, and a Bachelor of Arts in Diplomacy from the National School of Administration of Algeria. Diop was an adviser to Malian presidents Alpha Oumar Konaré and Amadou Toumani Touré.
