2017 Donegal County Football Team Season
The following is a summary of Donegal county football team's 2017 season. Squad Ethan O'Donnell Personnel changes Richard Thornton from Coalisland helped train the team in 2017. Thornton took over from former Westmeath footballer Jack Cooney after two years, while Brendan Kilcoyne stayed on as a selector. 2012 All Star Colm McFadden retired at the end of the previous season. Donegal County Football Team
The Donegal county football team ( ) represents Donegal in men's Gaelic football and is governed by Donegal GAA, the county board of the Gaelic Athletic Association. The team competes in the three major annual inter-county competitions; the All-Ireland Senior Football Championship, the Ulster Senior Football Championship and the National Football League. Donegal's home ground is MacCumhaill Park, Ballybofey. The team's manager is Paddy Carr. Colm McFadden
Colm Anthony McFadden ( ga, Colm Antóin Mac Pháidín; born 1982/3) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays at full forward for St Michael's and, from 2002 to 2016, for the Donegal county team. McFadden is Donegal's most-capped Championship player. He played an integral role in Donegal's successful 2011–14 run of matches, starting every Championship game in that period. Among other accolades, he has one All Star to his name (2012), one All-Ireland Senior Football Championship (2012), three Ulster Senior Football Championships (2011, 2012 and 2014) and one National Football League (2007). Anthony Thompson (Gaelic Footballer)
Anthony Thompson is a Gaelic footballer who plays for Naomh Conaill and, formerly, the Donegal county team. He plays at wing back. He won one All-Ireland Senior Football Championship and four Ulster Senior Football Championships with his county. Playing career Club Playing alongside John Gildea in midfield, Thompson scored three points, including two frees, in the final as Naomh Conaill won their first ever Donegal Senior Football Championship in 2005. Odhrán Mac Niallais (born 17 August 1992) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Gaoth Dobhair and the Donegal county team. With two Ulster Senior Football Championships to his name, Mac Niallais was a prominent feature of the Donegal midfield between 2014 and 2018. He is regarded nationally as "one of the most naturally gifted footballers in Ireland". He won an Ulster Senior Club Football Championship with Gaoth Dobhair in 2018. Leo McLoone
Leo McLoone (born 1989) is an Irish Gaelic footballer who plays for Naomh Conaill and also, formerly, the Donegal county team. A versatile player, often employed as a forward, he has been an important source of goals for club and county. McLoone made 109 appearances for his county, winning five Ulster Senior Football Championships and one All-Ireland Senior Football Championship. He was "the last of that famous Naomh Conaill four that also included Anthony Thompson, Dermot Molloy and Marty Boyle" to retire from inter-county football, doing so, as has been his custom, without making a public announcement. David Walsh (Donegal Gaelic Footballer)
David Walsh is an Irish former Gaelic footballer who plays for Naomh Bríd and also, formerly, for the Donegal county team. A member of the Donegal panel that won the 2012 All-Ireland Senior Football Championship Final against Mayo, he came on as a substitute in the second half of the game in place of Ryan Bradley. He injured his shoulder in a club championship match in October 2012 but returned to training ahead of the 2013 Ulster Championship. In January 2017, Walsh retired from the inter-county game. Rory Kavanagh
Rory Kavanagh ( ga, Ruairí Ó Caomhánach; born 23 August 1982) is an Irish Gaelic football manager and former player with St Eunan's and the Donegal county team. He currently manages the St Eunan's club. He captained his county in Brian McIver's first season in charge (2005).
