2016–17 San Francisco Dons Men's Basketball Team
The 2016–17 San Francisco Dons men's basketball team represented the University of San Francisco during the 2016–17 NCAA Division I men's basketball season. It was head coach Kyle Smith's first season at San Francisco. The Dons played their home games at the War Memorial Gymnasium as members of the West Coast Conference. They finished the season 20–13, 10–8 in WCC play to finish in a tie for fourth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament to Santa Clara. They were invited to the College Basketball Invitational where they lost in the first round to Rice. Previous season The Dons finished the 2015–16 season 15–15, 8–10 in WCC play to finish in fifth place. They lost in the quarterfinals of the WCC tournament to Pepperdine. Kyle Smith (basketball)
Kyle Andrew Smith (born June 15, 1969) is an American college basketball coach who is the men's head coach for the Washington State Cougars men's basketball, Washington State Cougars of the Pac-12 Conference. Prior to joining the Cougars, Smith was the head coach at Columbia University and then at the University of San Francisco. In his final season at Columbia, he led the team to a CIT Championship over UC Irvine. His coaching style has been dubbed “Nerdball”, which is a system that utilizes analytics to track and make decisions on many aspects about the team. Playing career Smith was a member of New York's Hamilton College (New York), Hamilton College men's basketball team that achieved a 26–1 record his junior season and achieved the national Division III (NCAA), Division III #1 ranking. James "Jimbo" Lull (born August 2, 1996) is an American professional basketball player for Flyers Wels of the Austrian Basketball Superliga. He played college basketball for San Francisco. High school career Lull grew up in Manhattan Beach, California and focused on surfing before turning his attention to basketball. He attended Rolling Hills Preparatory School in San Pedro, California for three years. As a sophomore, Lull averaged 18.8 points and 12.8 rebounds per game, helping the Huskies reach the Southern Section 5A championship game. He averaged 15.4 points, 12.3 rebounds and 3.0 blocks per game as a junior. Lull transferred to New Hampton School for his senior year and also a postgraduate year. Las Positas College (LPC) is a public community college in Livermore, California. History Las Positas College began as an extension program of Chabot College in 1963, offering 24 classes and enrolling 810 students at three sites, including Livermore High School. By 1965, the program had expanded to Granada High School in Livermore and subsequently offered classes at Amador and Dublin High Schools as well. The Chabot-Las Positas Community College District purchased the Livermore site that same year, intending to develop a comprehensive community college.
