2016–17 Primera División (women)
The 2016–17 Primera División Femenina de Fútbol, also known as Liga Iberdrola for sponsorship reasons, was the 29th edition of Spain's highest women's football league. Athletic Club were the defending champions. The competition started on 3 September 2016. Team changes Betis and Tacuense will make their debut in the top league after achieving promotion in the previous season. The two promoted clubs replaced Oviedo Moderno and Collerense, relegated to Segunda División. Club Atlético de Madrid Femenino (commonly known as Atlético Madrid Women or Atleti Femenino) is a Spanish Women's association football, women's Association football, football team based in Madrid that play in Liga F. It is the women's section of Atlético Madrid. History Atlético Madrid had a women's team for the first time in the late 1980s. Lezama Facilities
The Lezama Facilities ( eu, Lezamako Kirol-instalakuntzak, es, Instalaciones de Lezama), is the training ground and academy of the Primera Division club Athletic Bilbao. Located in the Lezama village around 10 km east of Bilbao, it was opened in 1971. Lezama hosts Athletic's first team for training and the league matches of Athletic EFT (women's team), as well as ten base youth teams: Bilbao Athletic (reserve team, currently playing at the Segunda División B level), women's B team, two junior teams (17 to 19 years old), two cadets (with ages between 15 and 16), two youngster teams (13 and 14) and three children's teams (the youngest, 11 and 12 years of age) which make up the club's football academy. Unión Deportiva Granadilla Tenerife, commonly shortened as UDG Tenerife, is a Spanish women's football club based in Granadilla de Abona, in the Canary Islands. Zaragoza Club de Fútbol Femenino, formerly known as ''Club Deportivo Transportes Alcaine'' for sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish women's football team from Zaragoza playing in Segunda División Pro. History Zaragoza CFF was founded in 2002 after carrier company Transportes Alcaine bought Inter Aragón, which played in the lower categories. In 2005 the new team promoted to Superliga Femenina, the Spanish top league. Valencia CF Femenino, previously Asociación Deportiva DSV Colegio Alemán, is a Spanish women's football team from Valencia currently playing in Spain's top league Liga F. History A modest club founded back on 25 November 2000 within the German School in Valencia (DSV), Colegio Alemán attained promotion to the Superliga Femenina for the 2007–08 season. Real Sociedad Femenino is the women's football section of Real Sociedad de Fútbol currently playing in Spain's top league Liga F. History Founded on 19 September 2004, Real Sociedad reached the first division after two promotions in its two first seasons ever, and occupying the place of dissolved Estudiantes de Huelva. Rayo Vallecano Femenino is the women's football section of Madrid-based club Rayo Vallecano, currently playing in the Primera Federación. RCD Espanyol Femení (Real Club Deportivo Español) is the women's football section of RCD Espanyol and was founded in 1970. History RCD Espanyol was one of the pioneering teams in women's football in Spain, playing its first match as early as 1970.
