2016–17 División De Honor Femenina De Balonmano
The División de Honor Femenina 2016–17, or Liga Loterías 2016-17 after sponsorship of Loterías y Apuestas del Estado, was the 60th season of women's handball top flight in Spain since its establishment. Mecalia Atlético Guardés won their first División de Honor title ever. The season began on 10 September, 2016 and the last matchday was played on 27 May, 2017. A total of 14 teams took part the league, 12 of which had already contested in the 2015–16 season, and two of which were promoted from the División de Plata 2015–16. Atlético Guardés won the championship by a two-points margin over 2nd team in the standings, Bera Bera. División de Honor Femenina de Balonmano or Liga Guerreras Iberdrola after sponsorship of Iberdrola, is the premier women's professional handball league in Spain. It is administered by the Royal Spanish Handball Federation (RFEBM). It was established in 1952, and it is currently contested by twelve teams. The 4 last ranked teams are relegated to División de Honor Oro Femenina, league newly created for the 2022-2023 season. For a long time, the 2nd level of the spanish women's handball pyramid was División de Plata (the 3rd level as of now). Super Amara Bera Bera is the defending champion. History The championship was founded in 1953, though it was cancelled in 1955 before it was resumed in 1961. Balonmano Remudas, a.k.a. Rocasa Gran Canaria ACE for sponsorship reasons, is a Spanish professional women's handball club from Telde in the island of Gran Canaria, Canary Islands. O Porriño (historically known in English as ) is a municipality in Galicia (Spain), Galicia, Spain in the province of Pontevedra (province), Pontevedra. Alcobendas () is a municipality of Spain located in the Community of Madrid. It forms an urban continuum with the neighbouring municipality of San Sebastián de los Reyes.
