2016–17 Al-Shorta SC Season
The 2016–17 season was Al-Shorta's 43rd season in the Iraqi Premier League, having featured in all 42 previous editions of the competition. Al-Shorta participated in the Iraqi Premier League and the Iraq FA Cup. They entered this season having finished in a disappointing seventh place in the league in the 2015–16 season. They were much better during this season, and were still in contention for the league title on the final day of the campaign, but a loss to Al-Minaa saw them finish in third place and miss out on continental qualification. They were knocked out of the Iraq FA Cup at the Round of 32 stage, losing at home to lower division side Al-Jaish; that defeat led to the sacking of manager Mohamed Youssef in March, who was replaced by Nadhum Shaker. Al-Shorta SC
Al-Shorta Sports Club ( ar, نادي الشرطة الرياضي, lit=''Police Sports Club'') is an Iraqi sports club based in Al-Rusafa, Baghdad. It has teams in 17 different sports, more than any other Iraqi club, and the best known section of the club is the football team, whose origins date back to 1932. In 1974, following the Iraq Football Association's decision to implement a clubs-only policy for domestic competitions, Al-Shorta were established as a sports club. Al-Shorta are one of Iraq's most successful clubs, having been crowned the inaugural Arab Club Champions Cup winners in 1982, and are the current Iraqi Premier League champions, winning their fifth title in the 2021–22 season. Al-Shorta have reached the final of the Iraq FA Cup on five occasions without success, but are joint-record winners of the Iraqi Elite Cup having become the first team to win the trophy three consecutive times. Hussein Abdul-Wahid Waham
Hussein Abdul-Wahid ( ar, حسين عبدالواحد ) (born on 28 February 1985 in Baghdad, Iraq) is a former Iraqi football midfielder. He last played for Al-Shorta SC in Iraq where he was the club's captain. Career A defensive midfielder that was on the fringes of Yahya Alwan’s Olympic team a couple of years ago. He played for Al-Sinaa and Zakho but finally made a name for himself at Al-Zawraa. Played for Erbil after spending the previous season with Duhok. He then moved to Al-Shorta in 2012. Hussein made his international Iraqi debut against Saudi Arabia and South Korea. He won the Iraqi League title with Al-Shorta in 2013 and 2019, the latter as captain, and is joint third-most successful player in the league's history with six titles. Mahdi Kamil Shiltagh ( ar, مهدي كامل شلتاغ , born 6 January 1995 in Iraq) is an Iraqi midfielder who played for Al-Zawraa and the Iraq national football team.
