2016–17 AS Monaco FC Season
The 2016–17 season was AS Monaco FC's fourth consecutive season in Ligue 1 since promotion from Ligue 2 in 2013. They participated in Ligue 1, the Coupe de France, the Coupe de la Ligue and the UEFA Champions League. Following aggregate victories over Fenerbahçe and Villarreal, Monaco qualified for the group stage of the Champions League, and sealed their place in the last 16 as group winners following a 2–1 win over Tottenham Hotspur on the fifth matchday. Association Sportive de Monaco Football Club SA, commonly referred to as AS Monaco () or Monaco, is a professional football club based in Monaco that is member of French Football Federation (FFF) and competes in Ligue 1, the top tier of French football. Jemerson de Jesus Nascimento (born 24 August 1992), known simply as Jemerson, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a centre-back for Atlético Mineiro. Club career Born in Jeremoabo, Bahia, Jemerson only played as an amateur until 2009, signing for Confiança. He joined Atlético Mineiro's youth setup in the following year, after failed trials at Palmeiras, Santos and Vasco. Fábio Henrique Tavares (born 23 October 1993), known as Fabinho () and nicknamed Fab, is a Brazilian professional footballer who plays as a midfielder for club Liverpool and the Brazil national team. A versatile player who mainly plays as a defensive midfielder, Fabinho can also be deployed as a right-back or centre-back. Fabinho is often viewed as one of the best defensive midfielders in the world. After starting off at Fluminense, he transferred to Rio Ave in 2012. Danijel Subašić (born 27 October 1984) is a Croatian professional footballer who plays as a goalkeeper for Hajduk Split. Subašić began his career in Croatia with Zadar and Hajduk. In January 2012, he joined Monaco, and went on to make 292 competitive appearances for them over eight-and-a-half years. The 2003–04 UEFA Champions League was the 12th season of UEFA's premier European club football tournament, the UEFA Champions League, since its rebranding from the European Cup in 1992, and the 49th tournament overall.
