2016 Virsligas Winter Cup
The 2016 Virsligas Winter Cup is the league cup's fourth season. It began on 18 January 2015. Skonto are the defending champion. Group stage The top two from each group advance to the Knockout stage. The third placed teams play each other to determine two more teams to join them. FK Liepāja/Mogo is a Latvian football club, founded in 2014. The club is based at the Daugava Stadium in Liepāja. FK Liepāja plays in the Latvian Higher League. In their first season they finished 4th in the 2014 Latvian Higher League. History FK Liepāja/Mogo was founded in March 2014 as a phoenix club and an indirect legatee of FK Liepājas Metalurgs, which was dissolved following the 2013 Latvian Higher League season due to the bankruptcy of its owner company and the sole sponsor metallurgical plant ''A/S Liepājas Metalurgs''. Andrejs Kovaļovs
Andrejs Kovaļovs (born 23 March 1989 in Daugavpils) is a Latvian footballer who most recently played for BFC Daugavpils and also represents the Latvia national football team. Club career Kovaļovs started playing football in 1997, at the age of 7. He was a member of the Daugava Daugavpils youth team and played under his first managers Aleksandrs Kohans and Ēvalds Stankevičs. Developing through the youth system Kovaļovs reached the first team of Daugava Daugavpils in 2007, when he was included in the squad entry for the following season. Being just 18 years of age Kovaļovs struggled with limited playing time, appearing in just three games over the first two seasons with the club. Nonetheless, in 2008 he helped the club win the Latvian Football Cup for the first time in its history. Nauris Bulvītis (born 15 March 1987) is a Latvian footballer who plays as a defender for FK Spartaks Jūrmala. Club career Bulvītis started his professional career in 2007 with Daugava Daugavpils. Having played there for one season, he made 7 league appearances and scored no goals. In 2008, he had a one-year spell in the Lithuanian A Lyga with Šiauliai, playing 21 games and scoring once. In 2009 Bulvītis returned to his homeland, signing a contract with Tranzit. That season he played 17 matches and scored 1 goal in the Latvian Higher League, before being loaned to the Scottish First Division side Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
