2016 Speedway Grand Prix Of Australia
The 2016 QBE Insurance Australian FIM Speedway Grand Prix was the eleventh and final race of the 2016 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on 22 October at the Etihad Stadium in Melbourne, Australia. Riders The Speedway Grand Prix Commission nominated reigning Australian Champion Brady Kurtz as the wild card, with newly crowned Under-21 World Champion Max Fricke and Jack Holder, the younger brother of Chris Holder, as the Track Reserves. Second series reserve Michael Jepsen Jensen replaced injured Australian Jason Doyle, while 2016 Australian Championship runner-up Sam Masters replaced the man who he had clashed with in the 2015 event, injured triple World Champion Nicki Pedersen. Samuel Peter Masters (born 23 May 1991) is an Australian motorcycle speedway rider who won the Premier League Riders' Championship in 2011. Masters is an Australian Champion having won the Championship in January 2017. Career Masters was born in Newcastle, New South Wales, Australia. Matej Žagar (born 3 April 1983 in Ljubljana, Slovenia) is a Slovenian motorcycle speedway rider who was won two Individual Speedway European Champion titles in 2004 and 2008. Career In 2002, he won the 2002 Individual Speedway Junior European Championship and the following year made his debut in the Individual World Championship. 2017 Speedway Grand Prix
The 2017 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 23rd season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, and decided the 72nd FIM Speedway World Championship. It was seventeenth series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company. The world title was won by Jason Doyle, who finished ahead of debutant Patryk Dudek and former two-time champion Tai Woffinden. It was the first title of Doyle's career, and the first time an Australian had lifted the trophy since Chris Holder in 2012. Defending champion Greg Hancock was unable to complete the season after suffering an injury, competing in only six of the 12 rounds. Qualification For the 2017 season there were 15 permanent riders, joined at each Grand Prix by one wild card and two track reserves. Niels Kristian Trochmann Iversen (, born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark) is an international motorcycle speedway rider. He was part of the Danish teams that won the Speedway World Cup in 2006, 2008, 2012 and 2014. Early life Niels-Kristian Trochmann was born 20 June 1982 in Esbjerg, Denmark to Ann Marie and Flemming Iversen. Growing up with older brother Soren, Iversen decided he want to be a speedway rider. His local town Esbjerg had a track where Iversen began to learn his desired trade. Quickly moving up the ranks in Denmark, his first title came in 1994 at the 50cc Danish Individual Championship. Moving up to 80cc in 1997 saw him win his second title at 15 years old. In 1998 Iversen moved up to full size 500cc bikes as he set his sights on a bigger and better future. Greg Hancock
Gregory Alan Hancock (born June 3, 1970 in Whittier, California) is an American former professional motorcycle speedway rider. As of 2023, he was one of only six riders to have won the individual World Championship four or more times. In addition to his four Speedway World Championships he won the Speedway World Team Cup with the USA speedway team on three occasions. Hancock appeared in all but one of the Grand Prix series, since its creation in 1995 until 2019. Career Hancock first came to the United Kingdom at the end of the 1988 speedway season to ride exhibition races with fellow 18-year-old Californian Billy Hamill. The 2012 Speedway Grand Prix season was the 67th edition of the official World Championship and the 18th season of the Speedway Grand Prix era, deciding the FIM Speedway World Championship. It was the twelfth series under the promotion of Benfield Sports International, an IMG company. The series began on 31 March in Auckland and finish on 6 October in Torun. The 2012 Speedway Grand Prix of Great Britain, also known as the 2012 FIM Fogo British Speedway Grand Prix for sponsorship reasons, was the ninth race of the 2012 Speedway Grand Prix season. It took place on 25 August at the Millennium Stadium in Cardiff, Wales, United Kingdom. The Grand Prix was won by Chris Holder who beat Krzysztof Kasprzak, Antonio Lindbäck and Fredrik Lindgren in the final. 1950 and 1953 World Champion Freddie Williams, Wales' only Speedway World Champion, presented the winners trophy to Holder.
