2016 Southland Conference Baseball Tournament
The 2016 Southland Conference baseball tournament was held from May 25 through 28. The top eight regular season finishers of the league's ten teams met in the double-elimination tournament to be held at Constellation Field in Sugar Land, Texas. won their fifth Tournament championship and earned the conference's automatic bid to the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament. and were ineligible for postseason play as they transition from Division II. Seeding and format The top eight finishers from the regular season, not including Abilene Christian or Incarnate Word, will be seeded one through eight. Matt Deggs
Matt Deggs (born August 20, 1971) is an American baseball coach and former infielder, who is the current head baseball coach for the Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns. He played college baseball at Alvin Community College (1991–1992) then transferred to Northwood University (1993–1994) before playing professional baseball for 3 season from 1995 to 1997. He then served as the head coach of the Sam Houston State Bearkats (2015–2019). Playing career Deggs played college baseball at Alvin Community College before transferring to Northwood University and a brief professional career with the Mobile BaySharks and the Tennessee Tomahawks for three years. The Sam Houston State Bearkats baseball team is a varsity intercollegiate athletic team of Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas, United States. The team is a member of the Western Athletic Conference, an athletic conference in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA). The winner of the tournament receives the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division I baseball tournament. Constellation Field
Constellation Field is a baseball park located in Sugar Land, Texas. It is the home of the Sugar Land Space Cowboys of the Pacific Coast League, who began play in 2012 as the Sugar Land Skeeters. The 2016 NCAA Division I baseball tournament began on Friday, June 3, 2016, as part of the 2016 NCAA Division I baseball season. The 64-team, double-elimination tournament concluded with the 2016 College World Series (CWS) in Omaha, Nebraska, starting on June 18, 2016, and ending on June 30, 2016. Jameson Fisher (born February 6, 1995) is an American professional baseball outfielder who is a free agent. Career Fisher attended Zachary High School in Zachary, Louisiana. He was drafted by the Chicago Cubs in the 24th round of the 2012 Major League Baseball Draft, but declined to sign a minor league contract and instead attended Southeastern Louisiana University where he played college baseball. He began college baseball playing catcher and first baseman. After tearing the labrum in his right shoulder, he underwent surgery and missed the 2015 season. In the following season as a senior, Fisher led the NCAA in hitting with a .424 batting average, 11 home runs, and 66 RBIs. He also scored 49 runs and stole 15 bases.
