2016 Six-red World Championship
The 2016 SangSom Six-red World Championship was a six-red snooker tournament held between 5 and 10 September 2016 at the Bangkok Convention Center in Bangkok, Thailand. It featured 48 players from 16 different nations. Thepchaiya Un-Nooh was the defending champion, but he lost 2–6 in the last 16 round to Stephen Maguire. Ding Junhui won the title by beating Stuart Bingham 8–7 in the final. Bingham won the first frame of the final, but Ding then built a 3–1 lead. The match then went to 4-4. Ding later led 7-5 but did not pot any balls in the next two frames as Bingham levelled the match at 7-7. In the last frame, Ding made a clearance of 29 to win the match on the final black. Six-red World Championship
The Six-red World Championship is a six-red snooker tournament, played with the six and six . Ding Junhui is the reigning champion. History The event was first held in the 2008/2009 season, and was known as the Six-red Snooker International. The event was organised by the Asian Confederation of Billiards Sports. Forty-eight players were divided in 8 round-robin groups. The top four from each group moved into the knock-out stage. In 2009 the event was renamed the Six-red World Grand Prix. In 2010, it replaced a rival tournament (sponsored by 888sport) as the official six red snooker world championship, after the other event—held once in 2009—was discontinued. The event was not held in the 2011/2012 season, but it returned for the 2012/2013 season with the backing of the World Professional Billiards and Snooker Association. Rod Lawler
Rod Lawler (born 12 July 1971) is an English professional snooker player. He is noted for his slow playing style which gave rise to his nickname, "Rod the Plod". After turning professional in 1990, Lawler has reached one ranking tournament final—the 1996 International Open—where he lost 3–9 to John Higgins, and has won one minor-ranking tournament – Event 3 of the 2012/2013 Players Tour Championship – where he defeated Marco Fu 4–2 in the final. David Gilbert (snooker Player)
David Gilbert (born 12 June 1981) is an English professional snooker player. He is a former World Snooker Young Player of Distinction and practises at Potters Snooker and Pool Club in Swadlincote, Derbyshire, a club which he co-owns. Having never previously been beyond the last 16 of a ranking event, Gilbert reached the final of the 2015 International Championship where he lost 5–10 to John Higgins. On 22 January 2019 he hit the milestone of the 147th maximum break in the Championship League. On 4 May 2019 he narrowly missed out on his first ever World Snooker Championship final in a final frame decider, losing out 16–17 to John Higgins. Phaitoon Phonbun
Phaitoon Phonbun (; born 5 October 1975) is a Thai former professional snooker player. Career Phonbun was born in 1975, and began playing snooker at competitive level as a wildcard entry in the 1995 Thailand Open, where he also recorded his first win, a 5–2 defeat of Anthony Davies. He exited the tournament in the next round, 1–5 to the six-time World Champion Steve Davis. Dominic Dale
Dominic Dale (born Christopher Dale on 29 December 1971) is a Welsh professional snooker player and snooker commentator and presenter for the BBC and Eurosport. Career Dale was born in Coventry, England. He won the Welsh Amateur Championship, which allowed him to compete at the World Amateur Championship in Bangkok. Dale reached the final, but lost 9–11 against Noppadon Noppachorn. Dale turned professional for the 1992–93 season. Robert Milkins
Robert Milkins (born 6 March 1976) is an English professional snooker player. Considered one of the most naturally talented and quickest players in the game, Milkins has been a mainstay on the tour since regaining his tour card in 1998. Milkins reached a career high rank of 12 in 2014 and has been in and around the worlds top 32 for two decades. After 27 years as a professional, he won his first ranking title at the 2022 Gibraltar Open. Pankaj Arjan Advani (born 24 July 1985) is an Indian billiards and former professional snooker player. He is a 25-time International Billiards and Snooker Federation (IBSF) world champion. He has won 17 billiards world titles, the IBSF World Billiards Championship on 16 occasions and the World Team Billiards Championship once. In snooker, he won the IBSF World Snooker Championship three times, IBSF World six-red championship twice and the IBSF World Team Cup and IBSF World Team Championship one time each. Basem Abdullah Eltahhan (born 17 August 1982 in Alexandria, Egypt) is an Egyptian former professional snooker player. Eltahhan turned professional in 2017 winning the African Championship. Career In 2017, Eltahhan beat fellow countryman Wael Talaat 6–5 in the final of the African Championship. The win gained him a two-year card on the World Snooker Tour for the 2017–18 and 2018–19 seasons. Due to lack of sponsorship Eltahhan couldn't make his professional debut until the 2017 English Open. Michael Holt (snooker Player)
Michael Holt (born 7 August 1978) is an English former professional snooker player from Nottingham. A former world Top 20 player, he has won one ranking event – the 2020 Snooker Shoot Out – and two minor-ranking tournaments. He has been runner-up at two ranking events – the 2016 Riga Masters and the 2019 Snooker Shoot Out. Martin Gould (born 14 September 1981) is an English professional snooker player from Pinner in the London Borough of Harrow. He has appeared in four ranking finals and won one ranking title, the 2016 German Masters.
