2016 Sepang 12 Hours
The 2016 Motul Sepang 12 Hours was the seventeenth Sepang 12 Hours race held on Sepang International Circuit on 10 December 2016. The race was contested with GT3-spec cars, GTC-spec cars, GT4 (Supersport)-spec cars, MARC cars and touring cars. This was the second Sepang 12 Hours race organized by the Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO). The race was also the third and final round of the inaugural Intercontinental GT Challenge. The race was won by the Audi R8 LMS run by Audi Sport Team Phoenix. Driven by Robin Frijns, Christopher Haase and Laurens Vanthoor. The race victory saw Vanthoor win the inaugural drivers championship. Supported by third-placed teammates Pierre Kaffer, René Rast and Markus Winkelhock, Audi won the manufacturers championship. AF Corse
AF Corse is an Italian auto racing team founded by former racing driver Amato Ferrari in 1995 in Piacenza. Michele Rugolo
Michele Rugolo (born 31 August 1982 in Montebelluna) is an Italian racing driver. Career Formula Renault After competing in karting championships from 1992 to 1999, Rugolo competed in the Formula Renault 2000 Italy from 2000 to 2002, and then switched to Formula Nissan part-way through 2002. Sports Cars Rugolo competed in the 24 Hours of Le Mans in 2003, finishing 11th overall in a Durango- Judd. In 2005, he competed in the American Le Mans Series, driving a Dodge Viper GTS-R. For 2007, he competed in the GT2 class of the FIA GT Championship, and moved into the International GT Open championship the following year. He joined Krohn Racing in 2011 for its Intercontinental Le Mans Cup GTE-Am class effort, which saw class wins at the Twelve Hours of Sebring and Petit Le Mans. Alessandro Pier Guidi
Alessandro Pier Guidi (born December 18, 1983) is a racing driver from Italy. He drove two races for the Italian A1 Team. A Ferrari factory driver since 2017, he won LMGTE-PRO 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship and 2019 24 Hours of Le Mans, and 2021 24 Hours of Spa. Pier Guidi drove a Ferrari 430 GT in the Spanish GT Championship and Italian GT Championship in 2005 and 2006, for the Scuderia Playteam. Phoenix Racing is a motor racing team based at the Nürburgring in Germany. The team competes in series such as the Deutsche Tourenwagen Masters and FIA GT1 World Championship and was the winner of the 2022 24 Hours of Nürburgring with the car #15. 2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge
The 2016 Intercontinental GT Challenge was the first season of the Intercontinental GT Challenge. The season featured three rounds — after the cancellation of the 6 Hours of the Americas - starting with Liqui Moly Bathurst 12 Hour on 7 February and the season concluded with the Sepang 12 Hours on 10 December. Calendar On 29 January it was announced that the 6 Hours of the Americas would be cancelled with the official reason a lack of entrants. The test days of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup were only four days after the event, so the European teams would be cutting it close for both events. Instead, the organizers postponed the race for a year, but there were no plans to run the race.
