2016 Oceania Badminton Championships
The XI 2016 Oceania Badminton Championships were held as two events in different counties. From 16 to 21 February, the team event was held in Auckland, New Zealand. From 25 to 28 April, the individual event was held in Papeete, Tahiti. Venue *X-TRM North Harbour Badminton Centre in Auckland, New Zealand for the team event, and Punaauia University Hall, within the University of French Polynesia in Papeete, Tahiti for the individual event. Medalists Team event In the mixed team event, Australia national badminton team won the gold medal after topped the standings in the round roubin stage. Australia also won the gold medal for the women's team event, while New Zealand won the gold medal in the men's team event. Sawan Serasinghe
Sawan Serasinghe (born 21 February 1994) is a former badminton player from Australia. He won seven Oceania Championships titles, five in the men's doubles and two in the mixed doubles. Serasinghe competed in the men's doubles event at the 2016 Summer Olympics alongside Matthew Chau. Career Serasinghe started playing badminton since the age of five, he was born in Galle, Sri Lanka, and moved to Australia when he was 11-years-old. He trains at the National Training Centre in Melbourne, and took out back-to-back Oceania Championships titles with Chau in 2015 and 2016. The 22-year-old also won the 2014 Sydney International Challenge mixed doubles with Setyana Mapasa, against some of the best players in the world. Susannah Leydon-Davis
Susannah Leydon-Davis (born 5 February 1992) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2014, she competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Originally from Hamilton, Leydon-Davis attended Hillcrest High School and was Sports Captain in 2009. In 2015 she graduated from the University of Waikato with a Bachelor of Management Studies. She competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow July 2014. Susannah competes in the mixed doubles with her brother Oliver, and they have actively been New Zealand representatives. She and her brother, won the mixed doubles gold medal at the 2014 Oceania Badminton Championships. Vicki Copeland (born 24 November 1988) is a New Zealand female badminton player. She was the women's doubles runner-up at the Waikato International tournament partnered with Anona Pak. Kevin James Dennerly-Minturn (born 18 May 1989) is a New Zealand badminton player. In 2014, he competed at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland. Career Dennerly-Minturn is an Auckland player on the international circuit and is also from the College Rifles badminton club. He comes from a very active and sporting family. From an early age he was gifted at a number of sports including cricket but pursued his passion for badminton and is now a key feature of the New Zealand doubles set up. He is based in Denmark for most of the year playing and training in the tough European environment.
