The 2016 Monterrey Challenger was a professional tennis tournament played on hard courts. It was the seventh edition of the tournament which was part of the 2016 ATP Challenger Tour. Hardcourt
A hardcourt (or hard court) is a surface or floor on which a sport is played, most usually in reference to tennis courts. It is typically made of rigid materials such as asphalt or concrete, and covered with acrylic resins to seal the surface and mark the playing lines, while providing some cushioning. Historically, hardwood surfaces were also in use in indoor settings, similar to an indoor basketball court, but these surfaces are rare now. Tennis Tennis hard courts are made of synthetic/acrylic layers on top of a concrete or asphalt foundation and can vary in color. These courts tend to play medium-fast to fast because there is little energy absorption by the court, as with grass courts but unlike clay courts. Alejandro González (; born 7 February 1989) is a Colombian former professional tennis player. He has a career-high singles ranking of World No. 70 achieved on the 9 June 2014. Ben McLachlan ( ; マクラクラン 勉, ''Makurakuran Ben''; born 10 May 1992) is a Japanese professional tennis player who previously represented New Zealand. He is a doubles specialist with a career-high ATP ranking of world No. 18, achieved in November 2018. McLachlan has won seven doubles titles on the ATP Tour, including three at ATP 500 level. Nicolaas (Nikala) "Nik" Scholtz (born 5 February 1991) is a professional tennis player from Greyton, South Africa. Nicolaas qualified for the 2011 SA Tennis Open. Scholtz is the son of Calla Scholtz, a former rugby player who represented Western Province in South Africa's domestic competition, the Currie Cup, from 1982 to 1989 (a total of 116 matches).
