2016 Latakia Offensive
The 2016 Latakia offensive, code-named Battle of Yarmouk, refers to a rebel operation launched in the northern Latakia Governorate in late June 2016. The aim of the offensive was to recapture the territory lost during the Army's offensive earlier in the year. The offensive Rebel capture of Kinsabba Between 27 and 30 June, the al-Nusra-led Army of Conquest, supported by FSA groups, launched the offensive on the Turkmen and Kurd Mountains, capturing several villages before they withdrew under Russian airstrikes. 33 rebels and 15 soldiers were killed in the fighting. Still, a second rebel assault one day later managed to capture Kinsabba, as well as a dozen nearby villages and hills. In reaction, the Russian Air Force conducted more than 100 airstrikes over Kinsabba and several other villages. On 2 July, the rebels captured the Jabal Qal’at mountaintop in the Turkmen mountains. Syrians ( ar, سُورِيُّون, ''Sūriyyīn'') are an Eastern Mediterranean ethnic group indigenous to the Levant. They share common Levantine Semitic roots. Suqur Al-Sahara
The Desert Hawks Brigade ( ar, لواء صقور الصحراء, ''liwāʾ suqūr aṣ-ṣaḥrāʾ'', Liwa Suqur al-Sahara) was an armed private militia branch affiliated with the Syrian Arab Army which fought on the side of the Syrian government in the Syrian Civil War. Syrian Marines
Faouj Maghawir al-Bahr ( ar, فوج مغاوير البحر, Faouj Maghawir al-Bahr, Marines Regiment) or the Syrian Marines is a military unit based in the Latakia Governorate. It has participated in operations in the Syrian Civil War. In February 2016, the Syrian Marines participated in a Latakia offensive alongside Syrian government forces. In March 2016, a large number of Syrian Marine convoys were deployed to the Battle of Palmyra from northern Latakia. Syrian Republican Guard
The Syrian Republican Guard ( ar, الْحَرَسُ الْجُمْهُورِيُّ, ''al-Ḥaras al-Jumhūriyy''), also known as the Presidential Guard, is an elite 25,000 man mechanized division, although it may actually approach corps size with around 60,000 guardsman.
