2016 FIA GT World Cup
The 2016 FIA GT World Cup (officially the SJM Macau GT Cup – FIA GT World Cup) was a Grand Touring (GT) sports car race held on the streets of the autonomous territory of Macau on 20 November 2016. It was the event's second annual edition, and the ninth time GT3-specified machinery had participated in Macau. Unlike the 2015 race, it was not run as a non-championship GT Asia Series race. The Automobile General Association Macau-China appointed motorsports organiser Stéphane Ratel Organisation (SRO) to help form a grid. The race itself consisted of two races: a twelve-lap qualification race that determined the starting grid for the four-lap main race. Laurens Vanthoor of Audi Sport Team WRT won the main race in a R8 LMS from pole position after winning the event's Qualification Race the day before. The following is a glossary of terminology used in motorsport, along with explanations of their meanings. 0–9 ;1–2 finish: When two vehicles from the same team finish first and second in a race. Can be extended to 1–2–3 or 1–2–3–4, etc. depending on a combination of racing series and team size. ; 107% rule: Often used in Formula One or other racing series, it is a rule where the driver must qualify the car within 107% of the polesitter's time to be allowed to compete. Variations of this may be used to monitor drivers and warn them to reach the required pace or be parked (disqualified). 2016 GT Asia Series
The 2016 GT Asia Series was the seventh season of the GT Asia Series championship. It began on 14 May at the Korea International Circuit and ended at Shanghai International Circuit on 19-20 October, 2016 after 12 championship rounds. Entry list Race calendar and results The full calendar for the 2016 season was released on 12 January 2016. The series will consist of 12 championship rounds held in pairs on six circuits across Korea, Thailand, Japan and China. The 3-hour race at Sepang International Circuit will be discontinued after teams voted against it. Also, the non-championship round at the Circuito da Guia in Macau does not feature in the calendar, now the main event of the FIA GT World Cup. 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship
The 2016 FIA World Endurance Championship season was the fifth edition of the FIA World Endurance Championship auto racing series co-organised by the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) and the Automobile Club de l'Ouest (ACO). The series was open to Le Mans Prototypes and grand tourer-style racing cars meeting four ACO categories. The season began at the Silverstone Circuit in April and ended at the Bahrain International Circuit in November, and included the 84th running of the 24 Hours of Le Mans. This season was also the last WEC season for Audi Sport Team Joest as they decided not to race in the 2017 FIA World Endurance Championship Season. 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup
The 2016 Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup was the sixth season of the Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. The season started on 24 April at Monza and ended on 18 September at the Nürburgring. The season featured five rounds, with each race lasting for a duration of three hours besides the 24 Hours of Spa and the 1000 km Paul Ricard events. After developing their partnership, Blancpain and the SRO decided that 2016 would see both the Sprint and Endurance Series further integrated into the Blancpain GT Series, putting the emphasis on the prestigious overall drivers' and manufacturers' titles causing the Endurance Series name to change from Blancpain Endurance Series to Blancpain GT Series Endurance Cup. Privateer (motorsport)
In motorsport, a privateer is usually an entrant into a racing event that is not directly supported by an automobile or motorcycle manufacturer. Privateers teams are often found competing in rally, circuit racing and motorcycle racing events and often include competitors who build and maintain their own vehicles and motorcycles. In previous Formula One seasons, privately owned teams would race using the chassis of another team or constructor in preference to building their own car; the Concorde Agreement now prohibits this practice. Increasingly the term is being used in an F1 context to refer to teams who are not at least part-owned by large corporations, such as Williams F1. Grand Touring
A grand tourer (GT) is a type of car that is designed for high speed and long-distance driving, due to a combination of performance and luxury attributes. The most common format is a front-engine, rear-wheel-drive two-door coupé with either a two-seat or a 2+2 arrangement. Grand tourers are most often the coupé derivative of luxury saloons or sedans. The term is a near-calque from the Italian language phrase ''gran turismo'' which became popular in the English language from the 1950s, evolving from fast touring cars and streamlined closed sports cars during the 1930s. Origin in Europe The grand touring car concept originated in Europe in the early 1950s, especially with the 1951 introduction of the Lancia Aurelia B20 GT, and features notable luminaries of Italian automotive history such as Vittorio Jano, Enzo Ferrari and Johnny Lurani.
