2016 British Rowing Senior Championships
The 2016 British Rowing Senior Championships were the 45th edition of the National Senior Championships, held from 22–23 October 2016 at the National Water Sports Centre in Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham. They were organised and sanctioned by British Rowing, and are open to British rowers. Holme Pierrepont National Watersports Centre
Holme Pierrepont Country Park, home of The National Water Sports Centre is located in the hamlet of Holme Pierrepont near Nottingham, England and on the River Trent. It is used for many different types of sports and has recently received significant investment which has enabled a major refurbishment of existing facilities as well as introduction of new facilities. Run by Serco on behalf of Nottinghamshire County Council, it was previously one of five National Sports Centres, and is a unique sporting venue set in the centre of the country. History The centre was constructed during 1970 and 1971 on a former gravel works and required the excavation of one and a half million Cubic yard, cubic yards of material. Edward Fisher (born 16 April 1994) is a British rower. Rowing career Fisher began rowing for the Loughborough Rowing Club at a local village fete. He made his British junior debut in 2010 in a match against France. Eleanor Piggott
Eleanor "Ellie" Piggott (born 16 May 1991) is an English rower, who won a gold medal as part of the Great Britain rowing squad at the 2016 World Rowing Championships, in the Women's Quad sculls event. Rowing career Piggott comes from Bedford. She is a graduate of Pembroke College, Oxford, and a member of Wallingford Rowing Club. She won her first gold at the World Rowing U23 Championships in 2013. She was part of the British team that topped the medal table at the 2015 World Rowing Championships at Lac d'Aiguebelette in France, where she won a silver medal as part of the lightweight quadruple sculls with Brianna Stubbs, Ruth Walczak and Emily Craig. Brianna Stubbs
Brianna Stubbs (born 13 July 1991) is an elite British rower and research scientist who won two gold medals for Great Britain at the 2013 U23 and 2016 World Rowing Championships. She was the youngest person to row across the English Channel when she completed the feat in 2004, at the age of 12. Her research is focussed on the metabolism of ketone drinks, and has been based at Oxford University. In 2014, she was included in the BBC's 100 Women. Life Stubbs was born in Poole and attended Canford School. Her father, Mark Stubbs, was a rower. Scott David Durant (born 12 February 1988) is a British rower and gold medallist in the Men's Eight at the 2016 Olympic Summer Games. Rory Gibbs
Rory Gibbs (born 3 April 1994) is a British representative rower - an Olympian and a two-time world champion. He won the 2022 and 2023 world championship titles in the British men's eight. Between 2016 and 2023 he rowed in victorious crews across six events at the Henley Royal Regatta. University rowing Gibbs took up rowing after picking up injuries playing rugby. Peter Chambers (born 14 March 1990) is a British rower, and is the brother of fellow rower Richard Chambers. He is a World Champion in the men's lightweight double sculls and an Olympic silver medalist in the men's lightweight coxless four. Oxford Brookes University Boat Club (known as Brookes especially verbally and as OBUBC in formal print) is the rowing club of Oxford Brookes University, England. Its large base is on the longest reach of the non-tidal parts of the Thames, Distances given in km at Wallingford, in Oxfordshire – about of easily rowable, little-congested river. Thomas Ford (born 3 October 1992) is a British national representative rower. He is a two-time world champion and an Olympic bronze medallist. Club and varsity rowing Ford was rowing for the Newcastle University Boat Club when he first represented for GB at the U23 level. Following graduation he joined the Leander Club.
