2016 Bangladesh Federation Cup
The 2016 Federation Cup also known as ''Walton Federation Cup 2016'' due to the sponsorship from Walton was the 28th edition of the tournament. A total of 12 teams competed in this tournament. Sheikh Jamal Dhanmondi Club was the winner of previous edition of the tournament. The tournament kicked off on 10 June 2016 with the match between Mohammedan Sporting Club Limited and Rahmatganj Muslim Friends Society at the Bangabandhu National Stadium. Dhaka Abahani lifted the title of Federation Cup with a 1–0 victory over Sheikh Moni Arambagh KS at the Bangabandhu National Stadium on 26 June 2016. Bangladesh Federation Cup
Federation Cup, also known as Bangladesh Federation Cup, is Bangladesh's premier cup competition in men's association football. The competition started in 1980 and is run by the Bangladesh Football Federation which is responsible for all types of competitive matches in the country. The teams from the country's premier league and other clubs compete in the tournament while occasionally Indian sides were invited in the past. Most of the matches are played in the country's main football venue Bangabandhu National Stadium. The winner of the tournament earn the slot of playing qualifying round of AFC Cup. Format A total of 13 teams participate in the final round. Teams are split into 4 groups. Two teams from each group qualify for the knockout rounds. Sheikh Russel KC is a professional football club based in Dhaka, Bangladesh, currently playing in the Bangladesh Premier League. The club has won the Federation Cup in 2012, which was their first major title. They also won their maiden Bangladesh Premier League title in the season 2012–13. Team Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (Team BJMC) was a sporting club in Bangladesh, which is mainly located in the city of Dhaka. The club was formerly known as East Pakistan IDC prior to 1971 and Bangladesh JIC from 1971 until 1978, from which point onward the club has been renamed to Team BJMC. Brothers Union is a football club based in Gopibag, Dhaka. The club was founded in 1949 and the regal business tycoon Kazi Ghiyasuddin Ahmed, better known as K. G. Ahmed served as the founder chairman of the club. At the beginning it was a well-known cultural organization. In 1973, the club started their football activities. They played 3rd Division Football League in 1973 and in 1974 and were promoted to 2nd Division in 1975.
