2016 Baguio Local Elections
Local elections were held in Baguio on Monday, May 9, 2016, as a part of the 2016 Philippine general election. Voters elected candidates for the local elective posts in the city: the mayor, vice mayor, the congressman, and the twelve councilors Incumbent city mayor Mauricio Domogan ran and won the mayoralty seat for a third and final term in office. Incumbent vice mayor Edison Bilog also ran for a full term and won, after assuming the post following then-vice mayor Daniel Farinas' death. Mauricio Domogan
Mauricio "Morris" Gamsao Domogan (born October 10, 1946) is a Filipino lawyer and politician and is the longest serving mayor of the city of Baguio. A member of the Lakas Kampi CMD party, Domogan served three terms as mayor of Baguio, initially as acting mayor from July to October 1992, and officially as the new mayor in October 1992 after succeeding the mayoralty post from Ramon Labo after he was disqualified due to his citizenship status, until 2001, and again from 2010 to 2019. He has also been elected to three terms as a Member of the House of Representatives of the Philippines, representing the Lone District of Baguio. He first won election to Congress in 2001, and was re-elected in 2004 and 2007. United Nationalist Alliance
The United Nationalist Alliance (UNA; ) is a political party in the Philippines. Baguio
Baguio ( , ), officially the City of Baguio ( ilo, Siudad ti Baguio; fil, Lungsod ng Baguio), is a 1st class highly urbanized city in the Cordillera Administrative Region, Philippines. A general election in the Philippines took place on May 9, 2016, for executive and legislative branches for all levels of government – national, provincial, and local, except for the barangay officials. The legislative districts of Baguio are the representations of the highly urbanized city of Baguio in the various national legislatures of the Philippines. Marquez "Mark" Ocampo Go (born September 28, 1952) is a Filipino businessman and politician. A member of the Nacionalista Party, he is the incumbent representative of the legislative district of Baguio since 2016. He is also an outstanding citizen of Baguio awardee in 1998. Multiple Non-transferable Vote
The multiple non-transferable vote (MNTV) is a group of voting system, in which voters elect several representatives at once, with each voter having more than one vote. MNTV uses multi-member electoral districts or only one district, which contains all voters, which is used to provide at-large representation. MNTV systems are not designed towards obtaining proportional representation; instead the usual result is that where the candidates divide into definitive parties (especially for example where those parties have party lines which are whipped) the most popular party in the district sees its full slate of candidates elected, resulting in a landslide.
