2015–16 Korisliiga Season
The 2015–16 Korisliiga season was the 76th season of the top professional basketball league in Finland. The season started on October 3, 2015 and ended May 11, 2016. Kouvot won its fourth national championship this season. Teams Namika Lahti left the league after the 2014–15 season, because of a bankruptcy. Kataja Basket Club
Kataja Basket Club is a professional basketball club of sports club Kataja from Joensuu, Finland. The team plays in the Korisliiga, the highest tier of Finnish basketball. In 2015, Kataja won its first national championship, after it beat Bisons Loimaa 3–2 in the Finnish Finals. History The basketball activity of the club started in 1955. In 1961, the team started playing in the Joensuu Sports Hall. The team started in provincial competitions, but quickly promoted to the national level in the 1960s. From 1976 till 1980, the team played continuously in the highest Finnish division. In the 2001–02 season, the team won its first trophy when it won the Finnish Cup. In 2015, the first championship of Kataja was realized after a 3–2 Finals series win against Bisons Loimaa. Kotka
Kotka (; ; la, Aquilopolis) is a city in the southern part of the Kymenlaakso province on the Gulf of Finland. Kouvola () is a cities of Finland, city and Municipalities of Finland, municipality in southeastern Finland. Joensuu Areena
The Joensuu Arena is a large multi-purpose hall and a center for large events in Joensuu, Finland, built primarily for the use of athletes. It is the largest building in the Mehtimäki's sports area, right near the center of Joensuu. The arena's equipment level, acoustics and lighting power are also suitable for organizing large meetings, trade fairs, events and concerts. The arena was completed in February 2004. When completed, it was the largest wooden building in Finland. Paavo Lipponen, the Speaker of Parliament at the time, officially inaugurated it on March 17, 2004. Joensuu
Joensuu (; krl, Jovensuu; ) is a city and municipality in North Karelia, Finland, located on the northern shore of Lake Pyhäselkä (northern part of Lake Saimaa) at the mouth of the Pielinen River (''Pielisjoki''). Energia Areena
Energia Areena is a multifunctional indoor arena in the Myyrmäki Sports Park, located in the Myyrmäki district of Vantaa, Finland. The arena gets its name from its largest sponsor, the energy company Vantaan Energia. Events The venue is able to be modified to accommodate corporate, cultural, and concert events, among others, but is best known for its athletic uses. Energia Areena is equipped to host floorball, badminton, volleyball, basketball, handball and futsal practices and games, in addition to gymnastics and cheerleading competitions. Loimaa (; historical sv, Loimijoki) is a town and municipality of Finland. It is located in the province of Western Finland and is part of the Southwest Finland region. Namika Lahti
Namika Lahti was a basketball club based in Lahti, Finland. The club played in the Korisliiga, the top Finnish championship league. The club was established in 1898 in Vyborg and moved to Lahti in 1947. In 2015, the club was dissolved, after economic problems. Name and history "Namika" is a nickname for NMKY, meaning YMCA.
