2015–16 Kazakhstan Basketball Championship
The 2015–16 Kazakhstan Basketball Championship (russian: Чемпионата Казахстана по баскетболу сезон 2015–16) was the 24th season of the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship, the highest professional basketball league in Kazakhstan. Its official designation in full was: XXIVth basketball Championship of the Republic of Kazakhstan for men's teams (National league) (russian: XXIV-го Чемпионата Республика Казахстан по баскетболу среди мужских команд (Национальной лиги)). The regular season ran from 15 January to 3 April 2016. 5 teams played 16 games each, with 8 confrontations between every side. Saryarka Velodrome
The Saryarka Velodrome ( kk, Сарыарқа велотрегі, ''Saryarqa velotregi''; russian: Велотрек Сарыарка) is an indoor cycle-racing track or velodrome that is located in Astana, Kazakhstan. Constructed in the shape of a racer's helmet, the velodrome is a unique sports complex that not only houses a cycling track, but its 58,000 metre square surface area also contains a sports courts, a fitness centre, a swimming pool, a basketball court, an ice rink, as well as conference halls, a restaurant and a hotel. It is mainly used for cycling and basketball. The seating capacity of the arena for cycling events is 9,270, being able to use only the permanent tiers of seating. Taldykorgan
Taldykorgan ( kk, Талдықорған/Taldyqorğan; russian: Талдыкорган), known as ''Taldy-Kurgan'' until 1993, is the capital (called an administrative center) of Zhetysu Region, Kazakhstan. According to the 2010 Kazakh Census Results, the population is 143,407. The town was founded in the 19th century as the village of Gavrilovka and developed into the present city on the same site. The town grew slowly in its early years. After the completion of the railway connection many Russian farmers moved to the area of the town. Russians are the second-largest ethnic group after the Kazakhs among the 70 nationalities living in Taldykorgan. A total of 143,000 people live in the city. Taldykorgan previously served as the capital city of Taldykorgan Region from 1944 to 1997 and Almaty Region from 1997 to 2022 and now serves as the capital of the new Jetisu Region. Dmitri Alexandrovich Gavrilov (russian: Дмитрий Александрович Гаврилов; born 27 November 1986) is a Kazakhstani professional basketball player. He plays for BC Astana of the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship and the VTB United League. Professional career The Alma-Ata native started his career with home town side CSKA Almaty, staying there until 2008 when he was loaned to Barsy Atyrau. In June 2009 he joined the Astana Tigers, the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship title holders. He played with the side in the 2010 FIBA Asia Champions Cup, scoring 26 points (including 8 in overtime) to help the Kazakhstani's overcome Smart Gilas in the group stage. After helping the Tigers win another championship, Gavrilov extended his contract for a year in June 2010. He would post 11 points and 7.9 rebounds in the championship during the season. Patrick Sean Calathes ( el, Πατρίκιος Σον "Πατ" Καλάθης, born on December 12, 1985) is a Greek-American former professional basketball player. Anton Ponomarev
Anton Ponomarev (born 31 October 1988) is a Kazakhstani professional basketball player who last played for BC Astana. Professional career Astana Tigers Ponomarev was brought to the capital Astana by newly formed Astana Tigers in 2000, along with other Kostanay players such as Rustam Yargaliev. They lived in the Olympic reserve school with other athletes. Ponomarev started playing in the Kazakhstan Basketball Championship during the 2002-2003 season. At only 15, he already measured , the second tallest player in the country. Kostanay ( kz, Қостанай, Qostanai ) is a city located on the Tobol River in northern Kazakhstan. It was known as Nikolayevsk (russian: Николаевск) until 1895 and then as Kustanay (russian: Кустанай) until 1997. Kostanay is the administrative center of the Kostanay Region.
