2015 World Championships In Athletics – Women's 400 Metres
The women's 400 metres at the 2015 World Championships in Athletics was held at the Beijing National Stadium on 24, 25 and 27 August. Christine Ohuruogu of Great Britain entered the competition as the defending champion. Summary Allyson Felix is known as a 200 metres specialist, but two years earlier her string of 200 meter championships was snapped along with her hamstring in the final. Based on winning the 2014 Diamond League, Felix was qualified to enter the 200 metres here but chose to forgo that opportunity to put all her eggs in this basket. This was her bid to win the one title she didn't have under her belt, the same event she narrowly lost to Amantle Montsho of Botswana four years prior at 2011 IAAF World Championships. Marita Koch
Marita Koch (later Meier-Koch; born 18 February 1957) is a German former sprint track and field athlete. During her career she collected 16 world records in outdoor sprints as well as 14 world records in indoor events. Her record of 47.60 in the 400 metres, set on 6 October 1985, still stands. Biography Born in Wismar, East Germany, Marita Koch displayed exceptional speed even as a young child and was defeating boys much older than herself in sprint races whilst at school. By the time she had turned 15 years old, she was training under Wolfgang Meier. Meier worked as a naval engineer, but also coached athletics part-time. Koch and Meier moved to Rostock where Koch began to study medicine. However, she decided to stop her studies and focus on running instead. Ma Yuqin (born 11 September 1972 in Xingtai) is a Chinese sprinter who specialized in the 400 metres. Early years In 1988, Ma joined the Hebei Track and Field team. Her talent was revealed during the 1990 edition of the Asian junior championships. There, she took part in the 400 metres and the 4 x 400 metres relay. Falilat Ogunkoya-Osheku (born 5 December 1968 in Ode Lemo, Ogun State, Nigeria) is a Nigerian former track and field athlete who holds the distinction of becoming the first Nigerian to win an individual track and field medal at the Olympic games.
