The 2015 Savannah Steam season was the second season for the American Indoor Football (AIF) franchise, and their first season in AIF. 2015 American Indoor Football Season
The 2015 American Indoor Football season was the tenth season of American Indoor Football (AIF). The regular season began March 20, 2015, and ended on May 23, 2015. Each team will played an 8-game schedule, with the exception of the Maryland Eagles, who were scheduled to play a 4-game schedule, all on the road. The top 4 teams in the league advanced to the playoffs that began on May 30, 2015. Pre-season The 2015 offseason saw major change for the AIF, as the defending champion Baltimore Mariners and Cleveland Patriots both folded and the Rochester Raiders suspended operations. The Cape Fear Heroes left the league to join the X-League Indoor Football. The league had also announced the expansion of the Buffalo Lightning and the Carolina Silverhawks. The Silverhawks had planned on playing in 2015, but decided to plan for 2016 expansion. Savannah Steam
A savanna or savannah is a mixed woodland-grassland (i.e. grassy woodland) ecosystem characterised by the trees being sufficiently widely spaced so that the canopy does not close. The open canopy allows sufficient light to reach the ground to support an unbroken herbaceous layer consisting primarily of grasses. American Indoor Football
American Indoor Football (AIF) was a professional indoor football league, one of the several regional professional indoor football leagues in North America. The AIFL began as a regional league with six franchises on the East Coast of the United States in 2005. After a rapid, and largely failed, expansion effort in 2006, most of the league's remaining teams jumped to the new AIFA (the rest joined the short-lived WIFL). The AIFA expanded throughout existing territory and, in 2008, expanded into the Western United States. The league legally divided into two entities to allow for a partial merger with the Southern Indoor Football League, which resulted in all of its Eastern teams merging into the SIFL and the AIFA only maintaining its western teams. The league's western component, which remained separate of the merger, had indicated it would play as the AIFA West for the 2011 season but ceased operations January 2011. In sport, a bye is the preferential status of a player or team that is automatically advanced to the next round of a tournament, without having to play an opponent in an early round. In knockout (elimination) tournaments they can be granted either to reward the highest ranked participant(s) or assigned randomly, to make a working bracket if the number of participants is not a power of two (e.g. 16 or 32). Santander Arena
The Santander Arena (formerly known as the Sovereign Center) is a 7,160-seat multi-purpose arena, in Reading, Pennsylvania. It was built in 2001. The arena sits on the former site of the Astor Theater; one of several grand movie and theater palaces built in Reading in the early 20th century. Closed in 1975, the theater sat vacant for over two decades. In 1998, the Astor was demolished to make room for the Santander Arena. Early in construction, steps were taken to retain mementos of the Astor, including its ornate Art Deco chandelier and gates. These are on display and in use inside the arena corridors, allowing insight into the ambience of the former movie house. The Atlanta Sharks were a professional indoor football team based in Loganville, Georgia. They were members of American Indoor Football (AIF) during the 2014 and 2015 seasons. The Sharks joined the AIF in 2013 as an expansion team, by then owner Betty Chaney-Robinson. The Sharks played all of their games on the road as a travel team. History The Sharks were announced as an expansion member of American Indoor Football (AIF) on September 6, 2013. On November 19, 2013, Marcus James was officially named the team's first head coach.
