The 109th edition of the Paris–Tours cycling classic was held on 11 October 2015. The race was part of the 2015 UCI Europe Tour, ranked as a 1.HC event. Italian rider Matteo Trentin won the race in a three-man sprint with Belgians Tosh Van der Sande and Greg Van Avermaet. 2015 UCI Europe Tour
The 2015 UCI Europe Tour was the eleventh season of the UCI Europe Tour. The 2015 season began on 29 January 2015 with the Vuelta a Mallorca, Trofeo Santanyí-Ses Salines-Campos and ended on 25 October 2015 with the Tour of Aegean. The points leader, based on the cumulative results of previous races, wears the UCI Europe Tour cycling jersey. Tom Van Asbroeck of Belgium is the defending champion of the 2014 UCI Europe Tour. Throughout the season, points are awarded to the top finishers of stages within stage races and the final general classification standings of each of the stages races and one-day events. The quality and complexity of a race also determines how many points are awarded to the top finishers, the higher the UCI rating of a race, the more points are awarded. Ruban Jaune
The Ruban Jaune ''(English; Yellow Ribbon)'' is a cycling title created in 1936 by Henri Desgrange, awarded to the rider recording the fastest average speed in a professional Bicycle racing, cycling race or Race stage#Bicycle race stage, stage longer than 200 km. The name is thought is to have come from comparison with the Blue Riband accolade awarded to the passenger liner crossing the Atlantic Ocean in record time. Desgrange changed the colour to yellow to reflect the newsprint of L'Équipe#L'Auto, L'Auto, the sports newspaper he edited. The current holder of the Ruban Jaune is Philippe Gilbert. History The first holder of the Ruban Jaune was Gustave Danneels of Belgium, who won the 1936 Paris–Tours in 41.455 km/h. Mike Teunissen (born 25 August 1992) is a Dutch racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career He rode at the 2013 UCI Road World Championships, and was the winner of the World Under-23 Cyclo-cross Championships in 2013. He was named in the start list for the 2015 Vuelta a España. In June 2017, he was named in the startlist for the 2017 Tour de France. In 2019, he had a top 10 finish in Paris-Roubaix. He was named to the start list of the 2019 Tour de France, where he was intended to be a leadout man for Dylan Groenewegen. Late in stage one as the sprint trains were coming together there was a crash, which eliminated Groenewegen's chances and ruined the team's plans of getting the stage win and yellow jersey. Edward Theuns (born 30 April 1991) is a Belgian racing cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He rode for his national team at the 2014 UCI Road World Championships. Career Theuns made his debut for in 2014. He took his first victory in August 2014 in the Grote Prijs Stad Zottegem. In 2015, he began his season with four top-ten finishes at the Étoile de Bessèges, finishing fifth overall and winning the points classification. Heinrich Haussler (born 25 February 1984) is an Australian road racing cyclist of German heritage, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . He has won 2 stages in Grand Tours during his career, one at the 2005 Vuelta a España and another at the 2009 Tour de France. Yves Lampaert (born 10 April 1991) is a Belgian road racing cyclist, who rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Lampaert practiced judo from the age of six, earned a black belt, but at the age of 17 started training in cycling. He rode at the 2014 and 2015 UCI Road World Championships. He was named in the startlist for the 2016 Vuelta a España. Tiesj Benoot (born 11 March 1994) is a Belgian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Lotto–Soudal (2015–19) Benoot turned professional with the Belgian UCI World Tour team in 2015, after riding for the outfit in 2013 and 2014, and riding some races as a stagiaire in autumn 2014. Benoot made an instant impact in the professional ranks by placing fifth in his first Tour of Flanders. Marco Marcato (born 11 February 1984) is an Italian former racing cyclist, who last rode for UCI WorldTeam . Career Born in San Donà di Piave, Veneto, Marcato won the Tour de Vendée in 2011, and Paris–Tours in 2012: in the latter of these he took the Ruban Jaune as the holder of the record for the fastest average speed in a race of over , at the time. For the 2014 season, Marcato joined , after his previous team – – folded at the end of the 2013 season. Matteo Trentin (born 2 August 1989) is an Italian professional road cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Professional career In 2014, Trentin took a prestigious victory on Stage 7 of the Tour de France, where he won the sprint by a few centimeters over Peter Sagan. Trentin had also won a stage of the same race on his maiden Tour start in 2013, winning in a sprint in Lyon against his breakaway counterparts. In October 2015, Trentin won Paris–Tours in record time for a race over 200 km, thus becoming the new ''Ruban Jaune''. By winning the fourth stage in the 2017 Vuelta a España, he completed the set of at least one stage win in each of the Grand Tours.
