2015 Oman Super Cup
The 2015 Oman Super Cup was the 13th edition of the Oman Super Cup, an annual football match between Al-Oruba SC, the champions of the 2014-15 Oman Professional League and the 2014-15 Sultan Qaboos Cup and Fanja SC, the runners-up of the 2014-15 Oman Professional League. The match was played at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex in Muscat, Oman. On 19 August 2015, the defending Oman Professional League and Sultan Qaboos Cup champions, Al-Oruba SC decided to pull out of the 2015 Oman Super Cup citing non-payment of dues by the Oman Football Association and a late release of its players from national and army team camps as the main reasons behind the club's decision to pull out. On 21 August 2015, Fanja was declared the winner of the Super Cup after its opponent, Al-Oruba, as expected failed to turn up for the match. The Oman Super Cup ( ar, كأس السوبر العماني) is an Omani football cup competition. It was first held in 1999, but has been played on and off since its inception. Al-Oruba Sports Club was a Qatari football club. The football club merged with Al-Nasour to form a new football club named Al-Esteqlal, now known as Qatar SC. It was a founding member of the Q-League and it has won five consecutive Q-League titles. History Early career Al Oruba was founded in 1959. The idea of founding the club came from Abdulaziz bin Jassim. It was decided as the club name by the majority of football supporters due to the overwhelming number of Arab clubs with revolutionary names at the time. The club started off with just 18 players and staff members, and the first president was Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani. Initially, blue and white were the official colors of the club, and the headquarters was situated in a small 4-room house owned by Jassim bin Hamad. Fanja Sports Club ( ar, نادي فنجاء الرياضي; also known locally as ''Al-Malik'', or "The King" because of their great success, or just plainly as Fanja) is an Omani sports club based in Fanja, Oman. The club is currently playing in the Oman Professional League, top division of Oman Football Association. Their home ground is Al-Seeb Stadium. The stadium is government owned, but they also own their own personal stadium and sports equipment, as well as their own training facilities. History Fanja SC was founded in 1970 and registered in the very next year in 1971. The club has an illustrious history with a total of eight Omani League titles to their name. Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex
The Sultan Qaboos Stadium at the Sultan Qaboos Sports Complex ( ar, مجمع السلطان قابوس الرياضي), also known locally as Boshar ( ar, بوشر), is a government-owned multi-purpose stadium in the Boshar district of Muscat, Oman. It is currently used mostly for football matches, and also has facilities for athletics. The stadium originally had a capacity of over 40,000, but after recent renovations the capacity was reduced to 34,000. It is the home stadium of the Oman national football team. The 2016 Oman Super Cup was the 14th edition of the Oman Super Cup, an annual football match between Fanja SC, the champions of the 2015-16 Oman Professional League and Saham Club the winners of the 2015-16 Sultan Qaboos Cup. The Oman Professional League ( ar, دوري المحترفين عمان; known as the ''Omantel Professional League'' for sponsorship reasons), previously known as the Omantel Elite League, is the top division of the Oman Football Association, and was officially created in 1976. Currently the most successful team in the league is Dhofar with a total of eleven titles to their name.
