2015 Mastung Bus Attack
On May 29, 2015, twenty-two passengers on a bus in Mastung, Pakistan were killed by gunmen when the bus they were in was hijacked. The gunmen were disguised as Pakistani security members. United Baloch Army (UBA), a militant group operating in Balochistan, claimed responsibility for the attack. Attack The attack happened at night when a coach bus was traveling from Quetta to Karachi. Between fifteen and twenty armed men arrived near the bus and forced all the passengers to get off the bus. The gunmen were disguised in security uniforms and arrived in three pickup trucks. The gunmen entered the bus and kidnapped thirty-five passengers. Twenty-two bodies were located two kilometers away from the exact location of the attack. Aftermath A large search for the gunmen the following day ensued, with five hundred ground troops and four helicopters assisting the search. Mastung ( Balochi and Urdu: ), the capital of Mastung District, is a town in the Balochistan province of Pakistan. It is located at 29°48'0N 66°50'60E and has an altitude of 1701 metres (5583 feet). United Baloch Army
United Baloch Army (UBA; ) was a militant group, fighting for the separation of Balochistan. The group has been designated as a terrorist organisation by the Pakistani government. The government of Pakistan banned the group on 15 March 2013. The group has also been Classified information, classified as a terrorist organisation by Switzerland's government. The group is led by Mehran Marri and was created as a result of an intrafamilial dispute between Mehran and his brother Hyrbyair Marri, the head of the Balochistan Liberation Army (BLA). BLA terrorists accused Mehran of stealing $3 million dollars from their funds and $800 million rupees worth of weapons from the BLA. 2015 Karachi Bus Shooting
On 13 May 2015, eight gunmen attacked a bus travelling in Safoora Goth, Karachi, Sindh in Pakistan. The shooting left at least 46 people dead. All of the victims were of the Ismaili Shia Muslim minority, suggesting the attack was a targeted killing of sectarian nature. The banned militant group Jundallah claimed responsibility for the shooting. The gunmen hailed from Afghanistan. Pamphlets supporting ISIL, with whom Jundallah claims allegiance, were also found at the crime scene. However, the Pakistani government ruled out the connection of ISIL in the attack, stating that the group does not have a physical presence in the country. Mastung District ( bal, مستونگ; ur, ) is a district located in the northwest of Balochistan province, Pakistan. Prior to its creation as a separate district in 1991, Mastung was part of Kalat District. Administration The district consists of three Tehsils: * Dasht * Kardigap * Mastung Prior to 2006, within these there were 12 union councils: Khadkocha, Ghulam Parenz, Karez Noth, Mastung-1, Mastung-2, Sorgaz, Dasht, Isplinji, Kanak, Shaikh Wasil, Kardigap and Soro.
