2015 Ironman World Championship
The 2015 Ironman World Championship was a long distance triathlon competition held on October 10, 2015 in Kailua-Kona, Hawaii and won by Jan Frodeno of Germany and Daniela Ryf of Switzerland. The race was the 39th edition of the Ironman World Championship, which has been held annually in Hawaii since 1978. The championship was organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC) and awarded a total purse prize of $650,000. Championship results Men Women Qualification The division of athletes was divided into professional, age group, physically challenged, and hand cycle divisions. For entry into the 2015 World Championship race professional triathletes qualified for the championship through a point system. Kailua-Kona is an unincorporated community and census-designated place (CDP) in Hawaii County, Hawaii, Hawaii County, Hawaii, United States. Brent McMahon
Brent McMahon (born September 17, 1980 in Kelowna, British Columbia) is a triathlete from Canada. McMahon competed in the second Olympic triathlon at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He was hampered by injuries, and placed thirty-ninth with a total time of 1:59:44.57. At the 2007 Pan American Games, McMahon won the silver medal, after being narrowly beaten by American Andy Potts. On August 14, 2011, Brent won his first Triathlon World Cup event in Tiszaújváros, Hungary. At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he finished in 27th place. Kraichgau
The Kraichgau () is a hilly region in Baden-Württemberg, southwestern Germany. It is bordered by the Odenwald and the Neckar to the North, the Black Forest to the South, and the Upper Rhine Plain to the West. An Ironman Triathlon is one of a series of long-distance triathlon races organized by the World Triathlon Corporation (WTC), consisting of a swim, a bicycle ride and a marathon run completed in that order, a total of . It is widely considered one of the most difficult one-day sporting events in the world. Most Ironman events have a time limit of 16 or 17 hours to complete the race, course dependent, with the race typically starting at 7:00am. The mandatory cut off time to complete the swim is 2 hours 20 minutes. The mandatory bike cut off time for when an athlete must have completed their swim, transition and bike varies generally between 10 hours and 10 hours 30 minutes from when an athlete began their swim. Lucy Gossage (born 25 December 1979) is a British doctor and former triathlete and duathlete, who currently works at Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust. As an athlete, Gossage competed in Ironman Triathlon events, was twice European duathlon champion, and won multiple Ironman Triathlon events. Sports career In April 2012, Gossage won the European Women's duathlon title, and she retained the title in 2013, finishing the Powerman Duathlon World Series in second place in 2012. Caroline Steffen (born 18 September 1978) is a professional triathlete from Switzerland. She is the winner of the 2010 and 2012 ITU Long Distance Triathlon World Championships and took second at the 2010 and 2012 Ironman World Championship. Before competing as a professional triathlete she was a member of the Lifeforce Pro Cycling Team. Career Steffen was born in Spiez and began her early competitive career as a swimmer. She is the runner-up of the 2013 Ironman 70.3 World Championship and the third-place finisher at the 2012 Ironman 70.3 World Championship.
