The 2016 Honduran Supercup was a match arranged by the Honduran Liga Nacional which took place on 8 July 2016 between C.D. Honduras Progreso, winners of the 2015–16 Liga Nacional (Apertura tournament) and Club Deportivo Olimpia, winners of the 2015 Honduran Cup. This was the first Honduran Supercup since 1999 after the 2015 edition was abandoned with no disclosed reason. Qualified teams Background C.D. Honduras Progreso qualified as reigning champions of the 2015–16 Honduran Liga Nacional (Apertura); meanwhile Club Deportivo Olimpia entered as the 2015 Honduran Cup winners. Honduras Progreso defeated C.D. Motagua in the Apertura finals on penalty shoot-outs after a 4–4 aggregated score. Liga Betcris de Honduras (''Honduran National Professional Football League'') is the highest division of football in Honduras. The league season is divided into Opening (autumn) and Closing (spring). One team is relegated to the Liga de Ascenso (the team with fewest points in Opening and Closing) and one team is promoted from Liga de Ascenso. The 2014–15 Honduran Liga Nacional season was the 49th Honduran Liga Nacional edition, since its establishment in 1965. For this season, the system format remained the same as the previous season. The tournament began on 1 August 2014 and has ended in May 2015. On 20 December 2014, C.D. Motagua obtained its 13th national title after defeating C.D. Real Sociedad 2–1 on aggregate in the Apertura finals. 2014–15 teams A total of 10 teams will contest the tournament, including 9 sides from the 2013–14 season plus C.D. The 2015 Honduran Cup was the 10th staging of the Honduran Cup and the first edition since 1998. Club Deportivo Olimpia are the defending champions. The 2015 Honduran Cup is referred to as the Copa Presidente de Honduras for sponsorship reasons. The cup is a creation of the Honduran government funded by money allocated to national security fund. Its purpose is to support the growth of sport to detract the youth from vices and to promote national tourism for rural towns. The cup was contested by 64 teams from the top 3 divisions of the country. There was a total of 10 teams from La Liga Nacional (First Division), 27 from Liga de Ascenso (Second Division) and 27 from Liga Mayor (Third Division). It was the first cup in which teams outside the top division participated. Some stipulations included that the lower seeded team hosted the matchup and five substitutions were allowed. Honduran Supercup
The Honduran Supercup is a Honduran football competition held yearly as a preseason match between the reigning champions of the Liga Nacional and the Honduran Cup. The competition started unofficially in 1997, but it was discontinued after just two seasons. In 2015, it was intended to be reactivated, however the match between F.C. Motagua and Club Deportivo Olimpia was scheduled but not played. One year later, a new Supercup edition was finally reestablished after 17 years of dormancy. The Honduran football authorities however, did not consider the competition official until 2017. Juticalpa, Olancho
Juticalpa () is the capital of Olancho Department in Honduras, with a population of 69,850 (2020 calculation), and the municipal seat of Juticalpa Municipality. Situated in a broad river valley alongside the Rio Juticalpa, the town is a commercial centre for much of Olancho's ranching and agricultural economy. Its Catedral de la Inmaculada Concepción, devoted to the immaculate Conception, is the cathedral episcopal see of the suffragan Roman Catholic Diocese of Juticalpa. Olancho Department
Olancho is the largest of all the 18 departments into which Honduras is divided. The department covers a total surface area of 24,057 km² and has an estimated 2015 population of 537,306 inhabitants. The departmental capital is Juticalpa, which is also the see of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Juticalpa, which covers the department. Estadio Juan Ramón Brevé Vargas is a soccer venue in Juticalpa, Honduras. It is the headquarters of Juticalpa FC and Olancho FC, both of the Liga de Ascenso de Honduras. It was inaugurated in July 2015. First game The first official game was played on Sunday 9 August 2015 between hosts Juticalpa F.C. and Real C.D.
