2015 Gran Premio Di Lugano
The 2015 SuisseGas Gran Premio di Lugano was the 69th edition of the Gran Premio di Lugano road cycling race. The race took place on 1 March 2015 on a loop around the city of Lugano, Switzerland, starting and finishing on the shore of Lake Lugano. The defending champion from the 2014 Gran Premio di Lugano was Mauro Finetto (). While the terrain of the race was not particularly difficult, it was considered likely that the race would be fairly selective because the race came so early in the season, when riders were not in their best form. The most challenging climb was expected to be that of Collina d'Oro. The race was won by Niccolò Bonifazio () in a sprint. Teams 14 teams were selected to take part; four were UCI WorldTeams, nine were Professional Continental teams and one was a Continental team. Niccolò Bonifazio
Niccolò Bonifazio (born 9 October 1993) is an Italian cyclist, who currently rides for UCI WorldTeam . Career Early career Bonifazio was born in Cuneo. Bonifazio's professional career began in 2013 when he rode as a stagiaire for UCI WorldTeam . He joined the team the following year as a regular rider. In September 2014, Bonifazio took the biggest victory of his career so far by winning the Coppa Agostoni in a bunch sprint. In addition to this, he won a stage of the Tour of Japan and three stages and 2nd place of the Tour of Hainan. In 2015, he booked another victory, the Gran Premio di Lugano, also in a sprint. Jérôme Coppel (born 6 August 1986) is a French former road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 2008 and 2016 for the , , and teams. Career Born in Annemasse, Haute-Savoie, Coppel and compatriot Romain Sicard were the focus of a four-page spread in the sports magazine ''L'Équipe'', with the headline ''Bientôt un crack française?'' ("Soon a French champ?"). His presence helped gain its invitation to the 2011 Tour de France, where he finished 14th in the general classification and third in the young rider classification. Damiano Cunego (born 19 September 1981) is an Italian former professional road racing cyclist, who rode professionally between 2002 and 2018 for the , and teams. Cunego's biggest wins were the 2004 Giro d'Italia, the 2008 Amstel Gold Race, and the Giro di Lombardia in 2004, 2007 and 2008. David Tanner (born 30 September 1984) is an Australian former professional road cyclist, who rode professionally between 2009 and 2018 for six different teams. Ivan Basso (born 26 November 1977) is an Italian former professional road bicycle racer, who rode professionally between 1999 and 2015 for seven different teams. Basso, nicknamed Ivan the Terrible, was considered among the best mountain riders in the professional field in the early 21st century, and was considered one of the strongest stage race riders.
