2015 Colorado Springs Mayoral Election
The 2015 Colorado Springs mayoral election took place on April 7 and May 19, 2015, to elect the mayor of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The election was held concurrently with various other local elections. The election was officially nonpartisan. Incumbent Mayor Steve Bach, in office since 2011, announced that he would not seek a second term in office. Since no candidate won a majority of the vote, a runoff was held on May 19 between Mary Lou Makepeace and John Suthers, the top two finishers in the April general election. Suthers defeated Makepeace in the runoff to become Mayor. John Suthers
John William Suthers (born October 18, 1951) is an American attorney and politician serving as the Mayor of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He previously served as the Attorney General of Colorado, U.S. Attorney for Colorado, Executive Director of the Colorado Department of Corrections, and Fourth Judicial District Attorney. He is a member of the Republican Party. Early life and education Suthers was born in Denver and adopted a month later by William and Marguerite Suthers of Colorado Springs. His father died when Suthers was 15, and his mother died when he was 23. He attended St. Mary's High School in Colorado Springs, and the University of Notre Dame, from which he graduated ''magna cum laude'' with a degree in government in 1974. Mary Lou Makepeace
Mary Lou Makepeace (born April 30, 1940) is an American politician who served as the mayor of Colorado Springs, Colorado from 1997 to 2003. She was the first woman to hold that position. Early life and education Born Mary Louise Pfahl, she received a bachelor's degree in journalism and political science from the University of North Dakota and attended the Harvard University Program for State & Local Government. She earned a Masters of Public Administration from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs in 1979. Steve Bach
Stephen G. "Steve" Bach is an American politician who served as the mayor of Colorado Springs, Colorado. Elected in a runoff in May 2011, he was the city's first mayor under the new " strong mayor" form of government. In 2014, Bach announced he would not seek a second term as mayor. Early life and education Bach was born in Kansas and spent summers with family in Colorado, where he later returned to serve in the United States Army and graduated from the University of Colorado Colorado Springs. KRCC (91.5 MHz) is a public radio station in Colorado Springs, Colorado. It is owned by Colorado College and operated by Colorado Public Radio.
