2014 SABA Championship
The 2014 SABA Championship is the 3rd SABA Championship, and the qualifying event in the South Asia Basketball Association subzone, one of the FIBA Asia's subzone for the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup. The games were held from May 13 to May 17 in Kathmandu, Nepal. India won their second SABA title after sweeping the whole tournament, thus clinching the lone spot for SABA in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup. 2015 SABA Championship
The 2015 SABA Championship was the 4th SABA Championship, and the qualifying event in the SABA subzone, one of the FIBA Asia's subzone for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. The games were held from 3 July to 5 July in Bengaluru, India. The tournament was originally set to be hosted in Bangladesh. India successfully defended their title by sweeping the entire tournament. Winning their third overall SABA Championship title, they also got the only slot for South Asia subzone en route to the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship. Sri Lanka finished second and Nepal ended third, wherein they improved their finishes in this edition compared to their positions in the 2014 SABA Championship. On 13 June, the Indian Ministry of Sports called for all basketball tournaments in India including the SABA Championship to be put on hold following a leadership dispute at the Indian Basketball Federation. SABA Championship
The SABA Championship is a basketball tournament for national teams organized by the South Asia Basketball Association, a sub-zone of the FIBA Asia. It serves as a qualifier for various FIBA Asia events such as the FIBA Asia Championship and the FIBA Asia Cup. Starting immediately at the end of the 2019 FIBA Basketball World Cup, a new qualification format for 2021 FIBA Asia Cup, and for every continental championships thereafter, has been introduced, wherein home and away games will be done during the pre-qualifiers in order to determine the participants for the main qualifiers that will battle for the 16 berths of the continental championships. 2014 FIBA Asia Cup
2014 FIBA Asia Cup was the 5th FIBA Asia Cup, a top-level international basketball tournament of FIBA Asia. The tournament was held in Wuhan, Hubei, China from 11–19 July 2014. Iran won the tournament by defeating Chinese Taipei 89–79 in the final and thus automatically qualified for the 2015 FIBA Asia Championship to be held in China. Qualification According to the FIBA Asia rules, the number of participating teams in the 2014 FIBA Asia Cup is ten (10). Each zone had one place, and the hosts (China) and the defending FIBA Asia Championship titleholder (Iran) were automatically qualified.
