2014 Philadelphia Phillies Season
The Philadelphia Phillies' 2014 season was the 132nd in the history of the franchise. After a disappointing 2013, the Phillies entered the offseason with a strategy to reload rather than rebuild; they did not want to relinquish the opportunity to do well in 2014 in hopes of being competitive down the road. Commensurate with this strategy, among their key acquisitions were right fielder Marlon Byrd and starting pitcher A. J. Burnett. National League East
The National League East is one of Major League Baseball's six divisions. Along with the American League Central it is one of two divisions to have every member win at least one World Series title. The division was created when the National League (along with the American League) added two expansion teams and divided into two divisions, East and West effective for the 1969 season. The National League's geographical alignment was rather peculiar as its partitioning was really more north and south instead of east and west. Two teams in the Eastern Time Zone, the Atlanta Braves and the Cincinnati Reds, were in the same division as teams on the Pacific coast. Chris Wheeler
Chris Wheeler (born August 9, 1945) is a former announcer and color commentator for the Philadelphia Phillies in Major League Baseball. He is nicknamed "Wheels". Wheeler attended Marple Newtown High School in Pennsylvania and received a B.A. in journalism from Penn State University in 1967. Following graduation, he began his broadcasting career with WCAU radio in Philadelphia, where he was an airborne traffic reporter as well as a news writer and reporter. He later worked at WBBM in Chicago and CBS Radio in New York. Wheeler joined the Phillies as assistant director of publicity and public relations in 1971 and began broadcasting in 1977. 2008 Philadelphia Phillies Season
The Philadelphia Phillies' 2008 season was the 126th in the history of the franchise. The team finished with a regular season record of 92–70, first in the National League East. In the postseason, the Phillies won the World Series; this was the first major sports championship for Philadelphia since the 76ers swept the 1983 NBA Finals. During the season, they were managed by Charlie Manuel. To date, this is the most recent season the Phillies won the World Series. The Phillies opened the season by posting their first winning April since 2003. They also scored 60 runs over 5 games in late May in a sweep over the Colorado Rockies and accrued a 14–4 record over 18 games entering the month of June. Marlon Byrd
Marlon Jerrard Byrd (born August 30, 1977) is an American former professional baseball outfielder, who played in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Philadelphia Phillies, Washington Nationals, Texas Rangers, Chicago Cubs, Boston Red Sox, New York Mets, Pittsburgh Pirates, San Francisco Giants, Cincinnati Reds, and Cleveland Indians. Jim Jackson (born March 23, 1963) is an American professional sportscaster. He currently serves as the TV play-by-play announcer for the Philadelphia Flyers. Jackson formerly did radio play-by-play broadcasting duties for the 4th and 5th innings of Phillies home games. Philadelphia Flyers Jackson, an Upstate New York native, started his professional career broadcasting for the Utica Devils after graduating from Syracuse University.
