2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships – Women's Pentathlon
The women's pentathlon at the 2014 IAAF World Indoor Championships took place on 7 March 2014. Medalists Records Qualification standards Eight athletes were invited by the IAAF in the Heptathlon and in the Pentathlon as follows: # the winner of the 2013 Combined Events Challenge # the three best athletes from the 2013 Outdoor Lists (as at 31 December 2013), limited to a maximum of one per country # the three best athletes from the 2014 Indoor Lists (as at 17 February 2014) # one athlete which was invited at the discretion of the IAAF In total no more than two male and two female athletes from any one Member were invited. Upon refusals or cancellations, the invitations should be extended to the next ranked athletes in the same lists respecting the above conditions. Women's Pentathlon
The pentathlon or women's pentathlon is a combined track and field event in which each woman competes in five separate events over one day (formerly two days). The distance or time for each event is converted to points via scoring tables, with the overall ranking determined by total points. Since 1949 the events have been sprint hurdling, high jump, shot put, long jump, and a flat race. The sprint hurdles distance was 80 m outdoors until 1969 and thereafter 100 m; in indoor pentathlon the distance is 60 m. The flat race was 200 m until 1976 and thereafter 800 m. In elite-level outdoor competition, the pentathlon was superseded in 1981 by the heptathlon, which has seven events, with both 200 m and 800 m, as well as the javelin throw. Jane Jamieson
Jane Jamieson (born 23 June 1975) is a track and field athlete from Australia. Jamieson has competed in the heptathlon in the Olympic Games, World Championships and Commonwealth Games, finishing with Top-10 results at each level, including a gold medal at the 2002 Commonwealth Games in Manchester. Since the 2000 Olympic Games, Jamieson has been hampered by a string of knee, hamstring and calf injuries and missed the 2004 Olympic Games due to injury. Jamieson returned from injury to qualify for the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, but failed to complete the competition after suffering a calf strain to her left leg combining with the hamstring injury she suffered six weeks before the start of the Melbourne Games.
