2014 Deif Family Massacre
On 19 August 2014, the Israel Defense Forces carried out an airstrike at the home of Mohammed Deif, leader of the Al-Qassam Brigades. Deif was unharmed, but his wife Widad Asfura and his two children were killed. Background Deif joined Hamas in 1987, weeks after its establishment during the First Intifada. He was arrested by Israeli authorities in 1989 for his involvement with the organization. After 16 months of detention, he was released in a prisoner exchange. Soon after his release, he helped establish the Ezzedeen Al-Qassam Brigades, the armed wing of Hamas. Deif became the head of the Qassam Brigades after Israel assassinated Salah Shehade in July 2002. Al-Dalu Family Killing
The Al-Dalu family killing refers to the 18 November 2012 deaths of twelve people – ten members of the al-Dalu family, including five children and an elderly woman, plus of two of the family's neighbors, including another elderly woman – resulting from an Israeli air-strike on the family's home in Gaza City during Operation Pillar of Defense. Several nearby houses were destroyed in the attack. At least nine other civilians were hurt. Ahmad Yassin
Sheikh Ahmed Ismail Hassan Yassin ( ar, الشيخ أحمد إسماعيل حسن ياسين; 1 January 1937 – 22 March 2004) was a Palestinian politician and imam who founded Hamas, a militant Islamist and Palestinian nationalist organization in the Gaza Strip, in 1987. Raed al Atar (1974–2014) was the commander of the Rafah company of the Hamas Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades and member of the Hamas high military council.
