2014 Clarkson Cup
The 2014 Clarkson Cup is a women's ice hockey tournament that was contested in Markham, Ontario to determine the champion of the Canadian Women's Hockey League from March 19 to March 22, 2014. The Toronto Furies defeated the Boston Blades by a 1-0 tally in overtime to claim their first title. The tournament was played at Markham Centennial Centre. With the victory, Natalie Spooner became the first woman in hockey history to claim the gold medal in the Winter Games and the Clarkson Cup in the same year. Markham, Ontario
Markham () is a city in the Regional Municipality of York, Ontario, Canada. It is approximately northeast of Downtown Toronto. In the 2021 Census, Markham had a population of 338,503, which ranked it the largest in York Region, fourth largest in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA), and 16th largest in Canada. Brittany "The Otter" Ott (born June 12, 1990) is an American professional ice hockey player. , Ott plays for the New Hampshire region team in the Professional Women's Hockey Players Association. She previously played two seasons for the Boston Blades in the Canadian Women's Hockey League and four seasons with Boston Pride of the National Women's Hockey League (NWHL). Jenelle Kohanchuk (born October 3, 1990) was an ice hockey forward for the Boston University Terriers women's ice hockey program. She would compete for the Toronto Furies squad that captured the 2014 Clarkson Cup. She is a current player for Team Bauer (Boston) for the PWHPA (2021-22). Playing career Kohanchuk participated in the 2006 Mac’s Midget Tournament with Balmoral Hall. The following year, she competed in the tournament with Notre Dame. Kori Cheverie (born June 18, 1987) is a Canadian retired ice hockey player, currently serving as assistant coach of the Canadian national women's ice hockey team and of the Ryerson Rams men's ice hockey team. She was the first woman to be hired to a full-time coaching role in U Sports men's ice hockey history. Christina Kessler (born May 28, 1988) has competed for the Canadian National women's ice hockey team. Her debut with Team Canada was at the 2010 Four Nations Cup where she was part of the gold medal-winning squadron. She played for the Burlington Barracudas in the Canadian Women's Hockey League before being claimed by the Brampton Thunder in the dispersal section of the 2012 CWHL Draft. Tessa Bonhomme (born July 23, 1985) is a Canadian former professional ice hockey player and is a television sports reporter for The Sports Network (TSN).
