2014 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships
The 2014 Asian Indoor Athletics Championships was the sixth edition of the international indoor athletics event between Asian nations. It took place at the Vocational and Technical College Athletics Hall in Hangzhou, China, between 15 and 16 February. The city was confirmed as the host in September 2013 at the 77th Council Meeting of the Asian Athletics Association. This was the second time the city held the event, successively following on from the 2012 Championships. Maryam Jamal
Maryam Yusuf Jamal ( ar, مريم يوسف جمال; om, Maryam Yuusuf Jamaal) (born Zenebech Tola) (born 16 September 1984) is an Ethiopian-born Bahraini middle-distance runner. She is the first Bahraini athlete to win an Olympic medal, a gold (originally bronze, but later upgraded after two doping violations) in the 1500m women's race, in the 2012 Summer Olympics in London. This was also the first Olympic medal won by a woman representing a Gulf state. Born in Ethiopia, 2005 was her first full season. She gained the national record and ran the fastest 3000 m of the year, with a time of 8:28.87 at a race in Oslo. 1500 Metres
The 1500 metres or 1,500-metre run (typically pronounced 'fifteen-hundred metres') is the foremost middle distance track event in athletics. The distance has been contested at the Summer Olympics since 1896 and the World Championships in Athletics since 1983. It is equivalent to 1.5 kilometers or approximately miles. The event is closely associated with its slightly longer cousin, the mile race, from which it derives its nickname "the metric mile". The demands of the race are similar to that of the 800 metres, but with a slightly higher emphasis on aerobic endurance and a slightly lower sprint speed requirement. The 1500 metre race is predominantly aerobic, but anaerobic conditioning is also required. The 400 metres, or 400-meter dash, is a sprint event in track and field competitions. A heptathlon is a track and field combined events contest made up of seven events. The name derives from the Greek επτά (hepta, meaning "seven") and ἄθλος (áthlos, or ἄθλον, áthlon, meaning "competition"). A competitor in a heptathlon is referred to as a heptathlete. Marina Aleksandrovna Aitova, née Korzhova (born 13 September 1982) is a Kazakhstani high jumper. Her personal best jump is 1.99 metres, achieved in July 2009 in Athens. Biography Born in Karaganda, Kazakh SSR, Soviet Union, Aitova made her first appearances on the world stage in 2003, competing at the 2003 IAAF World Indoor Championships and the 2003 World Championships in Athletics, but she did not get beyond the qualifiers in either competition.
