2014 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup was the fifth and the final edition of the AFC Challenge Cup, an international football competition for Asian Football Confederation (AFC) member nations that are mainly categorized as "emerging countries" in the now defunct Vision Asia programme. It took place from 19 to 30 May 2014. The winner, Palestine, qualified to the 2015 AFC Asian Cup. Hosts The AFC decided that an automatic qualification place will be given to the tournament's hosts starting from this edition. Four countries then expressed interest in bidding to host the tournament; India, Maldives, Philippines, and Tajikistan. The AFC announced on 13 November 2012 that the Philippines and Maldives were in the final shortlist to host the Finals. Ashraf Nu'man
Ashraf Nu'man Al-Fawaghra ( ar, أشرف نعمان الفواغرة; born 29 July 1986) is a Palestinian footballer who plays for Shabab Al-Khalil of the West Bank Premier League and the Palestine national team as a forward or attacking midfielder. International career Nu'man received his first national call-up for Palestine during 2010 AFC Challenge Cup qualification and made his debut six months later against the United Arab Emirates. Malé
Malé (, ; dv, މާލެ) is the capital and most populous city of the Maldives. With a population of 252,768 and an area of , it is also one of the most densely populated cities in the world. 2008 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2008 AFC Challenge Cup football tournament was organised by AFC and was hosted by India.The tournament was played from 30 July – 13 August 2008. India won the final against Tajikistan. India was also the winner of the fair play award and the India captain Bhaichung Bhutia won the most valuable player award. Chinese Taipei was originally designated the host, but could not guarantee it would meet the AFC's standards for hosting the tournament. Thailand was first chosen as host but withdrew due to lack of time to prepare. The Philippines also was to take over as host with matches to be played in Bacolod in May 2008 but the plan failed to materialized. The winners of the 2008 and 2010 competitions will qualify directly for the 2011 Asian Cup. 2006 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2006 AFC Challenge Cup was held between 1 and 16 April 2006 in Bangladesh. Sixteen teams were split into four groups, the top two in each group qualifying for the quarterfinals, and from then on a straight knockout contest. There was no qualification stage. The cup winner was Tajikistan. The fair play award was won by Sri Lanka and Tajikistani Ibrahim Rabimov won the most valuable player award. Selection of teams The AFC classed seventeen nations as ''emerging associations'', which need time to develop their football. They were selected in August 2005 to take part. The 2014 AFC Challenge Cup qualification phase determined the teams which advanced to the final tournament. The qualification draw was held on 11 December 2012, in AFC House in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The Northern Mariana Islands national football team, Northern Mariana Islands made their Challenge Cup debut after having been approved by the AFC to participate (the Northern Mariana Islands is an associate member of the AFC). 2010 AFC Challenge Cup
The 2010 AFC Challenge Cup was the third edition of the tournament which was held from 16–27 February 2010 in Sri Lanka. India, the defending champions, fielded their under-23 team for this tournament in preparation for the 2010 Asian Games later that year. The champions, North Korea, qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup. Qualification The finals saw three automatic qualifiers joined by five teams from the qualification phase.
